I live in Alabama and I can tell you why some American states/areas are shitty and others aren’t. This is the definitive answer and prettymuch indisputable.
1. No major city.
2. No major federal investment. All the nicest states/cities/areas in a America have huge government projects.
3. Backwards politics, poor understanding of good policy means whenever someone has a good idea everyone shoots it down cause they think it’s a socialist conspiracy.
4. Yeah uneducated blacks duh. Uneducated whites too. No nearby opportunity to make life better.
5. Lack of coastline or really anything unique about the state.
Same could be said of Alabama but this state is actually growing and some cities here are doing well. Nevertheless we could be better if the republicans here weren’t completely backwards shooting down all good ideas.

Mississippi is still ruled by the descendants of the plantation aristocracy and they have stubbornly for many many generations resisted the idea of inviting in industry or high tech jobs or any alternative form of economic activity. If Google or something wanted to set up shop in Mississippi, it would be rejected as a Yankee plot to corrupt their society.
Most Southern states found other economic opportunities after the Civil War, for example Texas had oil, Alabama had steel and government facilities, and Georgia established Atlanta as a major transportation hub. Mississippi never did.

Many schools in Mississippi can barely afford to pay their electric bills. Any teacher who is halfway competent will move out of state rather than work there. Not only is the educational system worthless, but teen pregnancy in the state is much higher than the national average due to lack of sex education and kids having nothing to do except benis in bagina.

There are a few decent areas like in Jackson and Biloxi, but a lot of the state looks like Haiti and over 50 years after official segregation ended, many rural communities still practice widespread unofficial segregation. Blacks and whites distrust each other and keep apart.

If Mississippi can further reduce the teen pregnancy rate, counties in the state who spend a large portion of their tax payers’ money on teen parents can redistribute that money to other educational areas with more funding for preschools and local colleges or even spend the funds to hire extra police officers, teachers, and registered nurses.
