Have you ever read the works of Peter Green or Eugene Borza? I think they make a pretty compelling case that the ancient Hellenes considered the Macedonians as outsiders. In fact almost no source from the ancient times tell us what you're claiming. Herodotus tells a story that Alexander I was barred from the Olympics due to being a Macedonian and not a Greek. Thukydides when talking about the Greeks and Macedonians separates the two as two different people. Isokrates flatters Philip II of Macedon as a Greek ruling over non-Greeks. Demosthenes is even less willing calling Philip II a barbarian. Arrian writes of the old racial hatred between the Greeks and the Macedonians. In fact Alexander III only had about 7,600 Greeks in his army while the Persians had much more Greeks in the service of the Persians who fought fiercely against the Macedonians. Plutarch in the Roman Era writes that the Ancient Greeks left the Macedonians the chance to take on Persia because of their civil strife. It's a subject that's full of propaganda due to both modern Macedonians and Greeks trying to ape the legacy of the Macedonians and in effect Alexander as their own. In part of Alexander he could change his identity to suit his needs. He could claim to be King of the Greeks and in another part claim to be a Persian and take the title of King of Kings and also take the title of Pharaoh. Macedonians talk funny, it's as if I'm hearing Serbs try their hand at speaking Bulgarian, and they have a lisp.
Maybe it just seems that way because I'm from the very eastern parts of the country; maybe I'm not used to the way they speak, but their immediate Bulgarian neighbours are.
I mean, our reporters can just stroll in speaking normal Bulgarian, and they'd understand basically everything you say.
