Poor and don't have a significant enough middle class for sports participation. Also the problem of China still following the Soviet idea of sports and athletics as an instrument of state power.

China has a lot of Olympic Medals (Yes, i know, Olympics sucks)
India is the best in Cricket, Badminton, Chess etc. and China is great at Table Tennis and Gymnastics. It's all about priorities. Indians and other Commonwealth countries follow Cricket instead of Football.

Why don't they play native Indian Chaturanga? Cucks
Cricket is cancer.
Why did they embrace a sport played by only upper class British colonialists?
China is really trying to improve their football. In some years they might be good
Not much of an option really. The British introduced Cricket and Badminton to their colonies and that is why Australia and India are Cricket world champions.
Also, don't forget that India probably has more classes than any other country on the planet. Most Indians that are middle class and above live with maids and helpers full time, so only makes sense that they took up Cricket.
Indian people dont put much emphasis on physical activity and sports, except in states like Haryana and Rajasthan. The sports authority is corrupt and rife with nepotism and has no idea how to promote sports. The country lacks basic sports infrastructure (or just overall infrastructure in general) Sports are discouraged in school and only though as something kids do in free time, next to none sports facilities are available in most schools and the ones that do, do not maintain and they deteriorate with time horribly. One of our sports ministry official campaign recently started a twitter fitness campaign where he challanges sports or other celebrities to do exercises, which is fucking stupid and clueless and stupid. Rich people are already a drain to Indian society and pandering to them doesnt achieve anything.
As far as China goes they have seriously overhauled their sports infrastructure and I wont be surprised to see them making leaps and bounds in all sorts of sports.
Chess is also being played since ancient times here, being derived from chaturanga.
>full time
Thats not how maids work here for middle class. They usually come in a specific time of the day to clean the house and dishes once a day. A single maid is in service of several households.
As both parents are starting to work full time, household requirements get neglected which formed this current situation. The basic Indian mindset to solve a problem is to pay other people to do it.
imagine dragging a village from the stone age into modern civilization over just two generations
why do you think
fuck off daneshit
Chess is a European game
You mean Chatranj?

Fake news
India best at cricket
China best at ping pong
Setting aside China, 98% of Indians are having an extremely hard time making ends meet so how can we expect them to get high quality professional trainings with sports facilities in good shape?
Big. Gov. Corruption.

China doesn't have a good sports culture either. Traditionally, gymnasts and acrobats were not a high-ranking or prestigious part of society, just trained monkeys there to entertain the upper class who didn't engage in physical activities; that was for the peasants.
The CCP has tried to poorly graft Soviet sports culture onto China but it's just not in their DNA.
Western chess. Chess originated in India and spread in all directions from East Asia to Europe and took on many localized variants.
Poverty is no excuse. Sub-saharan african countries do pretty well in football/olympics. South Asian countries on the other hand have been terrible all round. Bangladesh is the largest country to never win an olympic medal. While pakistan hasn't won a medal in 3 decades
Indian forms of chess are declining in popularity though and professional players play Western chess. Anand was really big in popularizing Western chess in India and when he started in the 80s, he said very few Indians played it and he learned the game by following Soviet grandmasters.

Not really trained monkey, but acrobats were traveling troupes who went around entertaining richfags. But you are right that they occupied a low place in the social stratum, almost like prostitutes.
Is football even popular in India? I don't think anything has the same fervor cricket does there.
>The CCP has tried to poorly graft Soviet sports culture onto China but it's just not in their DNA.
Kek. I think the CCP has proven it doesn't matter if China is or isn't compatible with what they want to do. It'll happen either way.
It's called the square peg in a round hole.
Peg? More like a 2x4.
>tfw you will never buy the services of an acrobat prostitute
There are pockets of football crazy regions in India. but they've never produced anyone of quality. In fact most of their talented attacking players come from the Northeast, who are ethnically similar to Thai/Burmese
Like who? I haven't payed much attention to cricket in the past two years but iirc Sehwag, Tendulkar and Dhoni are some of India's best attackers.
I meant in football
Interesting. From a google it seems some come from those North-Eastern areas and some from Southern India while barely any come from the North.
Is that what you meant by different pockets? It looks like cricket is most popular in Northern India.
Punjab is GOAT in Kabaddi
It’s like tag and wrestling super fun
All my football friends are into it
