True. Most Swedes can trace theirs back to the 1300-1400's due to the Church keeping track of all the family names. I do have a friend who is nobility and can trace at least some of his ancestors back to 900-950 AD however. When it comes to americans and other new worlders I doubt they can trace their lineages back any further than 300 years, tops.

Yea exactly, I only have one friend that can trace her line back to the 1600s, and that's only because her direct ancestors is one of our most famous and influential Priest and theologians. Norway was among the countries that got hit the hardest by the black plague, killing 50% of our population and 9/10 that could read or write so there's pretty much not a single family that can trace the line further than maybe 1500-1600 tops. Most who could keep records simply died.

I'm not sure about the time span, but wolf hunting is heavily regulated due to the fine balance between maintaining their numbers in the wild and not having them go extinct. Gubmint could say "hey go delet 20 wolves pl0x" or they could say "no wolf hunt this year ok? kthxbai". It depends on how the wolves are doing, really.

On a serious note, i guess vikings are to scandinavians what all the revolutionary greeks are to Greece. It's nothing relevant to today, but it marks extremely significant cultural history and development of scandinavian society and warfare. It was a very significant part of our history, and we treat it so. As for the positive popularity, it's more of a "we wuz vikingz n shit"-mentality. Speaking as a scandinavian though, vast majority of us don't really give as shit about vikings in terms of popularity or whatever. It's just part of our history.

The thing I hate the most about these people is the idea that they're born in "the wrong age" and they would fare better in the past. No you wouldn't you dimwit, of course people during the early middle ages didn't live in complete squalor, but still any assumption that you would "fit in better" is beyond idiotic.
