Another reason is that bigger population equals bigger economy, and if you consider 21 trillion national debt the US has, which is growing fast, and the economy in relation with time, you will see that immigration is necessary to keep the economy growing and pay the debts.
Another reason is geopolitical influence. If the different ethnicities and people do not relate to you, it will be much harder for you to project your political power over other nations.
