I wonder if in past times Brits, Spaniards, French, Han, Romans, Egyptians etc. were seen as similarly ridiculous and embarassing by their contemporaries. I would assume that back then, the citizens of the most powerful nations were also among the best-educated and cosnopolitan (at least abroad), so why is it that Murricans are not only considered walking jokes, but are also doing their best to confirm this view?

All civilizations gossiped about their neighbours. Stuff like spanish women having beards, weird customs and so on. Only the world wasn't as connected so most of it was bunkum anecdotal evidence. The few people who actually did travel could influence the opinions of everyone they met.
As for citizens of the most powerful being more cosmopolitan, that's straight up nonsense too. Big countries had more cities ergo more people who weren't utter tards but most of the population were still dumbfuck peasants who would believe anything.

I doubt it. What's killing our country is the postmodernist belief that ignorance deserves the same respect as education and facts because "both sides deserve respect"
While its true that multiple points of view should be considered, this is being taken to an extreme and used as an excuse to ignore inconvenient facts. The world is obviously getting hotter because average temperature records are constantly being broken? Well conservatives don't believe in climate change. The data shows that wages have stagnated for the last 30 years? Well that's the liberal point of view.
Facts are facts, numbers are fucking numbers. Opinions and feelings don't deserve equal respect. It's not hard but its a major thing we're struggling with right now.

That data does not show this. If you control for family size (which has changed a lot!) compensation tracks productivity almost exactly, with wages barely behind and roughly double what they were in 1973

Lot's of problems here. Do you know postmodernism is? Postmodernism just sort of says, "We should question everything and not just the basic ideas that are usually questioned." That doesn't mean "no facts allowed," it means "we should question the very ideas society is based upon, how we find evidence, etc. and maybe replace it with something else."
Lots more assumptions from here. As someone who believes in Global Warming as caused by humans, your weird paraphrase of the theory is embarrassing. What? You do know the political right doesn't oppose the idea that the world is getting hotter, right? They just don't think it's caused by humans. Saying to them, "temperature records are being broken" wouldn't change their minds because they agree. They just disagree on how it came about. Someone else already shed doubt on the wage statistic you used, but even if it was correct, your idea that it definitely, beyond a shadow of a doubt, shows anything is a little odd. What, do you think it shows something to do with economics? Huge schools of thought would disagree for perfectly good reasons unrelated to their feelings. The Austrian School for example (and all other Neo-Classical Schools) say that statistics are unreliable in economics, not because they are liberal but because they don't properly account for human action.
It seems to me that you don't properly engage with people who don't share your ideas and so you think that they are just idiots who have no grounding in reality whatsoever. Please talk to and/or read people who you disagree with. It's not hard but its a major thing you seem to be struggling with right now.
