This. We usually drink in three ways:
With food, which can be wine, beer, tsipouro/raki or ouzo. Choice of alcohol depends on the food and how shit-faced you get depends on if it's a special occasion/celebration or if it's a weekend/holiday or at least in the evening.

At the bar/club. People usually take it easy because drinks have always been relatively expensive and also because Greeks like to act cool when they go out rather than go crazy, dance wildly etc. At bars you will probably just slowly sip your drinks and chat, it's a social thing. At clubs you just stand around and look cool trying to impress girls rather than go nuts like in Northern Europe.

At the square/beach/park. It's usually teenagers or bydlo who do this and it involves beer usually. Again, almost never do people get drunk do this as it's more of a chilled/social situation to catch up, meet up etc.

Of course, people get shit-faced in all three situations but it's rare. Public drunkeness in bars and nightclubs like in the north of Europe, or public drunkeness in public spaces like in Eastern Europe is considered embarassing and people tend to look down on or avoid drunks in the street.

Finally, in the summer people get drunk more than in the winter because islands/holidays etc.

The Balkans have a good calisthenics scene so I'm sure there's on in Bulgaria. You could get into it if you want to be more social and work-out. There's always a couple of thots nearby mirin since it's in parks or beaches.

This true for any habit imo. That was my experience with smoking. People I know who try to "reduce" it or use alternatives like nicotine patches and vaping end up never stopping and being in a ridiculous cycle of craving and struggling to actually quit.

Alcohol and smoking are especially easy to quit if you do sports or any kind of serious exercise because you notice a huge improvement in your performance very quickly and that's a very easy/direct reward for our neanderthal brains to grasp.
