The ancestors of Napoleon descended from minor Italian nobility of Tuscan origin who had come to Corsica from Liguria in the 16th century.[10][11] His parents Carlo Maria di Buonaparte and Maria Letizia Ramolino maintained an ancestral home called "Casa Buonaparte" in Ajaccio. Napoleon was born there on 15 August 1769, their fourth child and third son. A boy and girl were born first but died in infancy. He had an elder brother, Joseph, and younger siblings Lucien, Elisa, Louis, Pauline, Caroline, and Jérôme. Napoleon was baptised as a Catholic.[12] Although he was born "Napoleone di Buonaparte" (Italian: [napoleˈoːne di bwɔnaˈparte]),[13] he changed his name to "Napoléon Bonaparte" (French: [napoleɔ̃ bɔnɑpaʁt]) when he was 27 in 1796 upon his first marriage.[note 2]

No one cosiders him italian here. It's just cool that he has italian ancestry, pretty much like Frank Sinatra, Quentin Tarantino etc...

WE won that war, Jean.

Corsican is a subset of Italian in the same way that Bavarian is a subset of German.

Napoleon didn't start learning French until he was ten years old and spoke with a thick Corsican accent that caused French people to bully him. he also never learned to spell in French correctly throughout his entire life and you can see this in his writings.
