The ancestors of Napoleon descended from minor Italian nobility of Tuscan origin who had come to Corsica from Liguria in the 16th century.[10][11] His parents Carlo Maria di Buonaparte and Maria Letizia Ramolino maintained an ancestral home called "Casa Buonaparte" in Ajaccio. Corsican is a subset of Italian in the same way that Bavarian is a subset of German.
Napoleon didn't start learning French until he was ten years old and spoke with a thick Corsican accent that caused French people to bully him. he also never learned to spell in French correctly throughout his entire life and you can see this in his writings.
