This thread is for the discussion of the language, culture, travel, daily life, etc. of Japan. Let's talk at random in Japanese and English. Take it easy!
yes, but it's slang and it sounds less intelligent.
Aaron Cruz
Well it was said by a dumb teen. I assume the "ppoi" changes the whole thing into an adjective. You Japanese and your language confuse me greatly, but I love you regardless. Here have some cute girls (Momoka a best) youtube.com/watch?v=ivJZljEostE
The green girl? She left the group because the other girls bullied her, no?
Camden Edwards
Bullying? hell no, they all loved her ;_;

It seems that production companies of TV variety shows are having difficulties finding sponsors and they are required to make a 2-3 hour show with the amount of budget that they used to spend for one-hour show. Variety shows today don't have that speed they used to have. It feels wiser to spend my time for watching a crappy movie on Amazon Prime.
Surely some of the talking / comedy ones are good though? Doesn't have to be a big kikaku every time.
Jack Myers
If you are Canadian watching a Japanese TV show, it's exposure to a foreign culture. If you are Japanese watching a Japanese TV shoe, it's wasting your time.
Where can I find free Fuji TV streams? I'm not gonna pay $30 a month for that shit.
Jack Roberts
If you are a student or have a day job, how much free time do you have a day anyway? If I had two hours to spend, I would watch an old movie rather than a variety show which no one remembers about a week later.
Brandon Perry
If there's free service which other people pay 30 dollars for, it's safe to assume it's illegal.
Aaron Edwards
No shit
Angel Gonzalez
Well, I watch millions of American films and TV dramas for 30 dollars a year on Amazon Prime... I understand it's a little unfair Fuji charging 12 times for their crappy shows.
Isaiah Evans
True. I wouldn't even mind paying if I would get more out of it but I don't even have a lot of free time to spend watching it anyway so I feel it's just a waste. I guess I'm just gonna have to try to download any raws I can find.

Moving to Japan in a few months. I'll do my best...
see? my cordial will to go so far as to undertake an unpleasant grave keeper job merely embodies our association's necrophilism to treat dead bodies kindly
Eli Butler
>undertake a.... job Thank you, that makes much more sense than anything I could come up with.
TOEIC/TOEFL instructor without any education in Japanese other than 8 months of anki three years ago during a period of unemployment.
I know nothing.

lmao i dare say you've got no difficulty in daily conversation. you asked about translation of ゲゲゲの鬼太郎 in preceding days didn't you?

Oh yeah, that was me. I've worked my way through all the Kitaro books before (god bless BookOff), but now I'm re-reading for a more thorough comprehension, while practicing translation.
Most Shigeru stuff is pretty easy to read, but there are plenty of times where I just get lost with certain ways of speaking, especially when it comes down to sarcastic nonsense.
Everyone reads on the iPhone. Most people don't know what a Kindle is by name, in my experience. iPads are far more popular.
I like book stores so I don't mind supporting brick and mortar stores, but space is pretty limited in a city like Tokyo. I think more people buy books in the countryside just because there's more storage.
Yeah, I left America in 2013 or 2014 and have been living here since. The only people I can ever relate about manga with irl are salarymen 30 years older than me to be honest.
Azumi's on my list once I can get over the hurdle of reading without furigana as a crutch. Not pictured is a collection of 鉄人28号, ルパン三世 and stuff by 杉浦茂 - if you like Kitaro, you might like him. Osamu Tezuka once said 杉浦茂's style was the one style he couldn't ever imitate, which is interesting praise.
wtf so almost 4 or 5 years have passed since you started living here lol how's your life here are you chilling out with foreigners or locals? >杉浦茂 yeah he's the mangaka of 猿飛佐助 (i haven't read it tho), it's listed
I'm doing the Jow Forums route and being a recluse most of the time I'm not working. I basically just walk around Tokyo in my free time, going book store to book store and checking out what's new.
I was actually an illegal alien for about a year and a half, since I was unemployed under a three year visa. During that time, I moved to Tokyo and lived with my girlfriend for free, while studying by reading manga and looking up words one at a time. Pretty inefficient way to study. Got a real job about three months before my visa would expire, paid back some dues, and surprisingly, wasn't kicked out of the country.
Most of the original friends I made (foreigners) have gone back home over the years. It's hard to make new friends in a city like Tokyo, I feel.
If you read 杉浦茂, check out ドロンちび丸. A free, remastered eBook was released and I'm a big fan.
Hudson Moore
Not him but bretty interesting life story. Didnt the money you have to pay back add up quite a bit over that timespan?
