>“Contrary to all right-wing myths, Germany has benefited massively from the crisis in Greece, and it cannot be that the German government ramps up the German budget with billions of Greek interest-rate profits,” Sven-Christian Kindler, Green’s spokesman for budget policy, told EURACTIV in a written statement.
>The answer provided by the German ministry of finance shows that between 2010 and 2017 benefits generated by interest rate amounted to a total of €2.9 billion. These benefits were first transferred to the Bundesbank and then into the federal budget.
>Details show that benefits generated by the SMP scheme amount to a total of €3.4 billion. However, in 2013 and 2014, Berlin transferred, respectively, €527 million and 387 million to the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), meaning that the net benefit for Germany amounted to 2.5 billion euros.
>But interest revenues from the German government-owned development Bank KfW loans generated an additional 400 million euros, bringing the gains from the Greek debt crisis to 2.9 billion euros.
>In 2013, the 527 million euros were transferred to Greece. In 2014, the 387 million euros were placed on a holding account that might become operational should the austerity program check-up turns out to be positive.
>“The Kaputtsparkurs [destructive austerity] has been far too long and done too much damage,”

Too bad that more Greeks and Italiens own more/better homes than the average german. They can afford it thanks to Target2/EU money while the rich EU countries are working/generate said money.
The only reason why Italy/Greece are sick of the EU so suddenly is because they kept creating so much debt that EU countries started to ask "Yo, where is the money?" Too bad they made way too much debt that they can threaten/strongarm the EU
Camden Parker
What about the initial debt money that have been forgiven?
Jackson Perez

Why do the Greek not leave the eurozone and go back to their own currency? They act like we can fix anything at this point. They have to fix it themselves. >b-but you profited from our bad decision to remain in the eurozone It's still your fault even if we profited from it
only 20-30% devaluation? that's actually great, we should leave, what is the euro good for anyway?
Connor Wright
>fix you can only make things worse
Jaxson Lewis
rough translation
Greece could devalue its currency and be more competitive. If Greece keeps the Euro and raises competitiveness by cutting wages by 20 to 30%, the country would be close to a civil war.
But it would be catastrophic. Greeks would rush to the banks to take off their money and savings to protect their wealth from a currency change. Institutions would be threatened by bankruptcy. The debts would become more costly since the Drachma would have a lower value.
It also seems to be useless since Greece didn't export a lot of things before it adopted the Euro. Cheap prices aren't enough. They have to produce the right products (big european cockroach countries have monopolies). Devaluations of Drachma would raise inflation and importing resources would be mor expensive for Greek companies.
Completely unknown what would happen in the financial markets if Greece would leave the euro zone. Investors would be panicking. Nobody would know about the future developments.

Germans think they saved Greece by watching some short videos on youtube or TV. Greece is some kind of 3rd world bogeyman country in German media.
Stop being ungrateful. You had a huge crisis and we helped you out. It's only fair that you pay us back, with interest of course. You're a fellow EU country so it shouldn't be a problem. Or are you saying you still have money problems? We can help you again if you want
Dylan Allen
Greeks don't want help they want free money
Jason King
did they still use the IMMINENT CIVIL WAR IN GREECE meme?
Camden Fisher
>We can help you again if you want i wonder why you're so willing to help
Eli Anderson
The interest cancels out inflation you absolute retards. Germany isn't making any profit. In raw numbers yes. But in buying power no.
Daniel Taylor
