I played american football for a year, soccer for 8 years, basketball for 1 year, baseball for 3 years, wrestling for 1 year. I even tried golf at one point which sucks. the major ones are american football, basketball, and baseball for sure.

you could try playing flag football instead. Instead of tackling and fucking somebody up, you try to pull a flag off their belt. Wouldn't require any gear really. Or you could try two-hand touch football where to down somebody you just have to touch them with both hands. american football is pretty dangerous to play without proper gear. Lots and lots and lots of concussions and broken bones even with chest/shoulder pads, thigh pads, and a helmet.

you need to understand that a contact doesn't need to be violent to be a foul but the ref might not call it because he might have not seen it since the field is pretty big and the decision can only be made by the ref
going down when you get an illegal contact is a way to highlight the foul and it'd be dumb to not do it, otherwise the defense will just get more and more aggressive
