You also ignored my other post about population refill. More people might mean more intelligent people. Unless your entire population is going to be full of Einsteins you are going to need outside brains to help run your automation economy. Having a higher population increases the chance of smarter people not to mention growing up poor and being promised pennies a day, they will push themselves harder to get the better life. Not to mention if you have to go to war, you'll have less boots on the ground, planes and tanks are nice but they won't matter much if there are not enough people to man them,supply them,manufacture them, design them and repair them.
