How do you feel about the American media portraying every European country that is not Scandinavian or Germany as complete shit? Only time they ever mention any other western country, it's to point out some trouble. Don't think Italy in particular was ever mentioned in good light in US media.

Not really. The industrial revolution was a one time event brought forward by the circumstances of the time. If Rome wasn't fucked over we probably wouldn't have had the correct circumstances, as a result industrial revolution wouldn't have taken place.

Some people have a poor impression of you guys because smug coasties praise your countries like they're literal heaven and smug magapedes send you endless praise for being white and blonde. Every Scandinavian I've met in real life is a nice guy, humble, though you are bit awkward where I live because everyone else is extremely social.

Scandinavia isn't heaven, but we are happy about the way stuff it works in our countries. This does not mean that people from other countries would prefer it, but we just like doing things our own way. I get the American sentiment about lower taxes, but Scandinavians sometimes prefer giving some more to the government so that the money can be spent elsewhere, like in education or in the medical system. If other people disagree that's fine, it's their country.

We're the least sociable, most asberger/autism types with personality disorders, known in sweden for knife fights and drunkedness, known in estonia for the same, our birth rates are lowest in nordic countries.
We have no history, even america has more, and we have the self hate mentality as other eastrons. Do not idealize us.

I used to be a sverigeboo. I bought into all the memes about social and economic egalitarianism, and studied Swedish consistently for an hour a day because I wanted to go to Uppsala or Malmo Universitet. Sweden was the only EU country I knew which paid foreign students tuitions in full, but the riksdag passed a bill removing foreign student subsidies the year I planned to apply (iirc 2012 or 2013). So I just went to uni in the States (with a scholarship, the local uni was actually cheaper for me despite all the memes about American universities bankrupting students). I know I could have applied to an exchange program but I chose not to for personal reasons and eventually became disinterested.

My opinions of Swedes (and Scandis in general) have changed over time. The people are pretty nice. The men can be vocal but that emotion is usually directed at an object and not another person/people. More often they're concise and reserved (almost hard to read), especially in direct dialogue. I always think of the Quake 4 player Toxjq. The women are sort of the opposite; they're more confident, tomboyish and unreserved than women I know here. Despite the memes, they're also kind of fat (the Danish/Swedish women I spoke to who live around the Malmo-Copenhagen area). Obviously this doesn't represent all Swedes.

Scandis overall, I admire their history, industriousness, and attention to detail but dislike their social and political beliefs. Norwegians are smarter than I anticipated; Swedes are dumber than I anticipated (this is my fault for having too high an opinion); Icelanders are cool people but there is not much to do in Iceland except enjoy nature; and Danes have cheap beer.

Americans don’t really think of Scandinavia much. It’s a small region that mostly keeps to itself.

I’m a statistician and Swedes have a huge influence in statistics (for example Cramér) so it seems pretty cool. But I never see this stuff on imageboards.

Also, Sweden is the 3rd largest exporter of music in the world, even though it’s a small country. I think Swedes are really inventive. Nobody ever points this out, but they created a lot of math and music.
