Why did people think building a major city in the middle of a literal fucking desert would be a good idea?

And why do people still think it's a good idea to move there? I mean without 5 AC units running 24/7 you'd die at home.

In 2015 we had a record heat of 40° for 2 days and plastic parts from some cheap cars did indeed melt.

When I mean "melt" I don't mean a puddle of rubber. I've seen tires deflate a lot quicker in the heat. Sort of scar, rip and tear. While driving I usually see a hot ass tire on the side of the road just fucking baking in the sun

You get used to it. People lived there even before ACs.
