The point of a refugee is a to return. You go to the nearest safe place, which there are plenty of in Mexico. This is what Syrians in refugee camps are in Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey are. Once you determine that you want to permanently move in a more prosperous country thousands of miles away, you become an economic migrant. Which isn't a bad thing and is obviously gets you more money, if it is done legally. Claiming asylum as a refugee is just abusing the system.
