I went to some courses for about 2-3 months, twice a week, 2 hours in the afternoon each. I could understand some of it before then and after that I could understand all of it and talk about simple stuff. I stopped after that because I didn't find it useful enough to become fluent but I will pick it back up eventually

yea pretty much; there's still a lot of people pleasantly surprised that I understand dutch
it depends on the industry and company you're at, but for example there was this ex-colleague who'd been here for 8 years,kids and everything, didn't speak a word of dutch and barely understood the basics
but pretty much everyone speaks english; for me it made things a lot easier and I just hated having to ask people to switch/repeat so I just learned it (gives more job options too)
afaik it's the same in denmark (imo there's barely any real difference between denmark and NL as far as living there as a foreigner goes)
