I am wondering how I can safely store my crypto tokens without spending on Ledger Shit because I think the same thing (or even more) can be achieved with just a usb and some knowledge about privacy & encryption.
I want to store my stego files with included private keys and offline copy of MEW to USB key, but i'm a little bit concern about USBs. I've already had USBs that for no reason went "device unrecognised" and all the data on them was lost.
So my question is: How to make DIY nano ledger with USB that will last for atleast 10-15 years.
>WASSA WASSA WASSA Holy fucking shit. Kill yourself u niggerlicious norman
Henry Wood
You want to hold 100$ worth of crypto on your stick? Just buy ledger/trezor or some other alternative. They have done the research and there's a reason to their cost.
Julian Thompson
>being this new
Kayden Allen
>I think the same thing (or even more) can be achieved with just a usb and some knowledge about privacy & encryption.
no it can't. Maybe you need to do more research.
an encrypted USB stick can be hacked with a keylogger, a ledger can't
Asher Young
cold storage on metamask don't let your private key ever touch your main PC always use keystore to access instead
Matthew Gomez
An offline computer will do fine. It's just inconvenient to sign transactions, and you need a computer you can take out the networking card permanently.
Thomas Perry
Look guys, forget about idea that I'll buy nano ledger because I've know way more about encryption then they do so I know that 100$ is just a scam.
This is my current opsec: - Raspberry Pi (AirGap) - Offline copy of MEW - Private key which was obtain by encrypting 256bit string with sha3 - I even create my own transaction maker so I just copy signedtx and then send it on another compueter
As you can see it's a lot more secure than fucking nano ledger shit which is backdored anyway.
The only problem is that I can't take this setup with me on road, so stop giving me this "just buy nano ledger" shit cuz it's just pathetic
Jordan Sanchez
>an encrypted USB stick can be hacked with a keylogger, a ledger can't This.
Unless you have an airgapped computer instead, but then you'll spend way more on that than on a hardware wallet.
Benjamin Sanchez
Can you tell me how you know so much about encryption? I want to learn.
Kevin Jones
Buy a battery pack for your raspberry then, brainlet.
Levi Turner
>going through all of that instead of spending 100$ on an investment safe kek, not gonna make it
Daniel Wood
back in the days I was black hat hacker...and the only reason i'm free is because of my paranoia about privacy and encryption. So if you want to learn, then star reading articles about hacker which got caught(and how did they got caught)
Andrew Gonzalez
>nano ledger shit which is backdored anyway.
you sound poor as shit if you're willing to go through all of that to save $100. how much crypto do you have to protect anyway?
and explain why you think ledger nano is "backdored"
Anthony Morales
and one more thing about the "secure" ledger shit.
You could also consider getting an old nokia memephone like the N900 or Neo900, which has support for turning off the modem completely, it also has USB OTG and you can easily install full desktop linux on it.
Gavin Ortiz
that raspy cost like $50 if it has a display, so he didn't even save that much
Benjamin Thompson
it's not about saving 100$ its about principle of saving cryptos on your own
do you realize that hack has already been patched, and requires physical access to the ledger? Also, show me one instance of that "hack" being carried out instead of just being hypothetical
a keylogger on your comp logging the password to your "encrypted" usb stick requires no such physical access. All it takes it one careless mistake from you
Tyler Torres
Use Linux and only for crypto stuff Aways check URL and SSL certificate before login anything, that's 99.99% safe as hardware.
Nathan Gutierrez
get a trezor then fuckwad
Jayden Diaz
Looks like i'm not gonna get my answer and instead i'm wasting my time with answering simple questions about security.
Read and learn people !
Good luck guys & gals
Nolan Cooper
What about this? Password is entered before you plug in to your pc
yes, marketing, otherwise these hw wallets are scams, and unsafe on top of that
Nicholas Jackson
Top kek at using any usb stick as a hardware wallet alternative
Enjoy losing your funds on some shitware infested rigged pc
Mason Myers
>unsafe on top of that
Explain how they are unsafe. I have yet to hear of any hack of a hardware wallet that doesn't involve a compromised device or physical access.
Robert Lopez
If you assume that I will plug that USB into just any PC then your intelligence quotient is not high enough to give advice.
And good luck to you too....you are gonna need it
Julian Adams
>Safest way to store crypto Loses it
Dylan Perez
>physical access you realize that before the wallets arrive to your house at least several people had physical access to it? why should you take that risk? crypto is supposed to be trustless
Jayden Williams
>crypto is supposed to be trustless exactly my point :) So...you maybe know the answer to my question ?
Grayson Watson
Just use clin linux distro and keepass with mew offline copy. How the hell you can get keylogger on clean distro?
Jacob Baker
>How the hell you can get keylogger on clean distro? Forgive them...they're just kids downloading minecraft moods so they are used to have their pc infested with keyloggers/rat
Grayson Sullivan
can't read or something? what will you do when ledger employee spoofs your device as selective scamming? good luck proving it
Adam Russell
>can't read or something? Clearly you did not understand what i'm asking....My initial question was: "How to make DIY nano ledger with USB that will last for atleast 10-15 years" and of course without buying ledger trash.
David Jenkins
WHAT THE FUCKING HELL ARE YOU IDIOTS TALKING ABOUT?????
A USB WITH A PASSWORD IS NOT JUST LIKE A FUCKING LEDGER. JEEEEZUS WEPT!!!
Bentley Cox
>because I think the same thing (or even more) can be achieved with just a usb and some knowledge about privacy & encryption. But it can't, your private key stays on the HW, you can't do that with a drive. just spend the $100 if you care about your financial future, trezor is open source
Hunter James
Why are you here?
Jacob Williams
Not everyone is stupid
Levi Brooks
> If you assume that I will plug that USB into just any PC then yadayada Lack of vision if you think you will only be transfering funds from your home pc. Top tip: I will be doing it from an STD ridden beach resort
Ayden Richardson
If you find $100 too much to spent on something that secures your stash, your stash is not worth securing.
Aaron Rivera
I mean how long do lefgers actually last, they've been on the market what.. like 4 years ? Heard a story about some dude trying to recover his crypto from a glitchy / buggy ledger. Its like safes are great for keeping shit in, but when the lock rusts over they're a bitch to break into.
Jaxon Collins
That's why you have a mnemonic seed that lets you restore your wallet on everything else that supports seeds.
Hunter Carter
This is the only place in the world where NEETS refuse to protect thousands in crypto ( read total networth) with something that cost 100 bucks.
