Same thing as the Senate, I imagine. Bicamerial legislatures are so weird to me.

Think of it as an unelected congress.

Reject the shitty ideas that went through the House of Commons and send them back like a teacher handing back a child's assignment with a 2/10.

damn, now that's a chamber. fancy

they smell each other's farts and rate them

Fuck sweet tender bois

Scrutinise bills passed by the House of Commons. Bar the Queen (who's signing of bills is basically ceremonial at this point), they function as the ultimate authority on laws in this country.

It's supposed to be a collection of Educated, expert and experienced people who pass judgement on bills before they're put into law.

banter

Calling it the “ultimate authority on laws” hasn’t been correct in more than 100 since the Parliament Act

This desu. Same as freemasons and some weird christian orders here.

> who's

Act as a line of defence against really fucking stupid legislation.

Also some of them are ministers.

Mostly shitpost irl

We have one too. They have a saying on most laws though parliament can force them through if they really want to.

>ywn be descended from Norman nobility
>ywn be the son of a hereditary peer
>ywn be captain of the rugby team at Eton
>ywn read Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford
>ywn smash up restaurants with the Bullingdon boys
>ywn receive the Sword of Honour at Sandhurst
>ywn be an officer in the Life Guards
>ywn marry a duchess
>ywn inherit your father's seat in the House of Lords
>ywn show up only to vote against the interests of the common folk to remind them of the Norman yoke

Why even live?

You can become a Lord without having a title.

No it's not. Congress is the entirety of the senate and house of representatives.
The house of lords is the senate, though it holds less power than the senate and is far less of a political tool but more of a safeguard of the constitution.
