As a Norwegian I can understand written Swedish and Danish. Swedish and Danish media has definitely helped in this regard. I can mostly understand Swedish when spoken. Danish is harder to understand when spoken, because of the way they pronounce the words. The vocabulary and syntax is fine.

Most of the time, you can think of it as the same language with different spelling. Same goes with Danish, to some extent. Norwegian is sort of in between Danish and Swedish.

Nah, a lot of words are different. Window in Norwegian is vindu, in Swedish it's fönster, as an example.

There is some lexical difference, but it also depends on what dialect each party speaks. Some dialects of Swedish are more like Norwegian and some dialects of Norwegian are more like Swedish. Bokmål Norwegian is a lot like written Danish, whereas Nynorsk Norwegian tends to have more words in common with Swedish. It's not an uncomplicated thing, but there is always a very high degree of overlap with slight differences.

swedes are down to earth people with kindness and are country living folks. (st*ckholm and g*thenburg and m*lmö are NOT sweden)

Sounds way more like a dialect of Norwegian to me. It's also very similar to Gutnish, which is spoken on the Swedish island of Gotland.

The islands were settled by Norwegians. Sweden demanded mainland Norway after a war with Denmark-Norway, that's why the Danes still have them. It sounds like they're speaking a really old version of Norwegian.

All the islands - the Faroe islands, Greenland, Iceland - were actually part of the original treaty drawn up at Kiel. So all of those territories were for all intents and purposes supposed to be transferred to Sweden as well. In the end, however, Sweden let Denmark keep them because at the time it would've been a huge burden to take over the rule of them.

That period was very benevolent, as you well know. Norway got to keep its own constitution and when the Norwegian people of the time voted to be let go, Sweden granted it without any reservations. This is why you celebrate your independence from Denmark every year, not your independence from Sweden.
