The communists successfully industrialzed the country and made it a world class technological developer. Without WW2 destroying 2/3 of the soviet economy it would've been 1st world by now. Also before 1930 the tsarists were responsible for not industrializing early enough, losing wars, and starting the civil war and entente invasion
