You couldn't be more wrong. I was holding this info for a while but will now let biz know. Sergey Nazarov and Come From Beyond (iota cofounder) worked together at NXT and are close.
IOTA needs a way to compensate full nodes on the network but that is hard because IOTA is feeless. Enter Chainlink. IOTA nodes are going to be able to offer chainlink sdk package from IOTA node that will offer them a way to earn sweet IOTAs for running a node.
So in a sense, IOTA and Chainlink are "partnering" up to allow oracles on the IOTA network. IOTA nodes will not even know they are utilizing chainlink. Another thing talked about is if IOTA works out and goes fully decentralized (removal of coordinator) Sergey and team expect to offer Chainlink using IOTA to remove the "gas fee" ecentually allowing chainlinks to be less expensive.

You are absolutely right. I have been aware of that since I heard about the connection between the two Sergeys. Also, chainlink has an adaptor for IOTA already built. It is all very optimistic, plus, IOTA will make people aware of oracles on which chainlink will capitalize.
