I met one of my grandpas best friends at a wedding who was apparently a multi billionaire from China. He literally just gave me a couple hundred dollar for no reason I guess it’s polite when you meet a new kid or something in Asia idk?
I was like 8 at the time I wish I was older I could have done some networking ;_;
Yeah it’s tradition for Chinese people to give kids money I don’t think anyone I know is especially rich. My grandpa had a friend too who was a business owner? He always let Grandpa fly first class and towards the end of his life paid for all of his hospital bills.

Grew up in an area full of rich as fuck people and went to school with their kids. I guess the richest would be a guy who owns one of the largest telecom companies in this country. This guy had the biggest home I've ever seen in my life. It was an old embassy that they converted into a home or something. It was too big to be honest, not comfy at all. Sort of turned me off from ever owning a huge house, even if I could afford one.

Richest and possibly most surreal was meeting Warren Buffett in 2015. After the meeting he took a friend of mine out to lunch in his Lincoln. Other than that, the only super wealthy I have been around were managing partners of various PE firms. Could do a story time if thread is alive after work.
Lucas Jackson
No I never met Warren and desu there is not many stories. It was pretty boring work. I was in Home Services and handled a bunch of rentals

I guess a huge take away from the get-go would be that you can never underestimate the importance of networking and more specifically, connecting with people that are considered gatekeepers. The levels of separation between yourself and someone with immense wealth or influence is likely to be more trivial than you realize. For me, this entire opportunity came about due to this person in my network who crossed paths with WB’s secretary over a decade ago. He’s the kind of guy who honestly has the GIFT to fucking GAB for one thing, but more importantly, he never wastes an opportunity to hone his skills on anyone he meets. The guy is like 60 years old and I’ve seen him put in work chatting up an entire gang of 18 year old girls for Christ’s sake, and he is not extraordinarily wealthy or good looking either. Anyways, thanks to this guy I had the opportunity to fly out to Omaha and tour the Nebraska Furniture Mart and Oriental Trading Company, both owned by BH. Afterwards there was a 2 hour private Q & A with the man himself. Basically the way it worked was that someone would ask him a question and then he would turn around and just start talking about whatever the fuck he felt like, kek. The reason I described the whole thing in my above post as being surreal was because he was so down to earth and normal. He is not at all what you would expect from either old money or new money. He drives a Lincoln town car and lives in the same house as before he made it. Throughout the whole meeting he was drinking a cherry coke and he was pretty funny as well. For the most part, he repeated a lot of the same memes that you could hear him share in previous interviews, so it wasn’t all new stuff (although I did take autistic notes of everything using pen and paper – no electronics in the room). He talked about his investing strategy revolving around simple/clear business models and very strong management teams. (cont)
Jacob Wood
He also shared his hypothesis about always investing/acting within your circles of competence. He talked about how he basically one the lottery by being born in America at the specific point in time when he was, etc. One of the particularly striking things I remember about him was his ability to recollect detailed numbers and figures in his head on the spot. For a man in his 80’s who is already looking at all sorts of numbers throughout his day, he was telling us stories and recalling detailed figures from various mergers or trades so crisply that they might as well have happened yesterday. Between that level of cognitive ability and his overall health while drinking x number of cokes per day, you can tell the man is just lucky to have the kind of genes that he has. I also remember that he said two of the most important investments he made were his two marriages. The way he put it was “The first one put me together, and the second kept me together.” That’s about the gist of it from what I can remember right now without checking my notes. Afterwards he took everyone out to lunch at Picolo Pete’s, and a girl I was with got to ride over with him and sit next to him while he ate. He liked her a lot because all of the other retards were constantly trying to sneak selfies/snaps with him (even though it was blatantly obvious—so cringe) meanwhile she was just respectful. She was also extremely well prepared and basically nailed some of the questions he asked her during dinner. I haven’t talked to her for a while so I am not sure if they have kept in touch at all but from what I recall the two of them got along quite well.

I've been unlucky with the rich people I've met. Meeting fuerdai (rich second gen Chinese) in Vancouver can be so demotivating, as they are basically playing sandbox mode with money cheats on. From what I see the downside to their lives is having to learn how to not become obsessed with manipulative women (very difficult as some are fucking hypnotically beautiful) and to fulfill the few committments they have to their family (holiday visits, quarterly meetings perhaps) faithfully. And they make it out like fulfilling the bare minimum is this excruciating thing. Like bud I'd kill to be able to do what I want for 10 months out of a year and only have to worry about showing up to Chinese New year.
