It actually didn't come out of nowhere. They are a company who was putting out a working product. The token ICO was a way to release their HoloFuel into the public space.
Their product was superior to blockchain, so the only way to get those blockbrains to see their product was better, was to make a token that would hijack the crypto community, and allow people to buy into the ground floor of a next generation dApp internet.
The FUD that people come up with is sad and ignorant. I have yet to read FUD from a single person who has looked deeply into this project/protocol.
