Nobody really had definitive answers, some mix of sharding/plasma/state channels can solve it, but even if it does it may not be recognized until some event happens that proves the superiority of decentralization (aka a hack) and in the meantime it's possible a shitchain like EOS could outperform with fake decentralization and marketing.
