conscientiousness is basically just your desire to do a good job, to do things properly.
I'm extremely high in conscientiousness and have a fairly high IQ, but I'm extremely introverted and kind of hate people, socially awkard, don't like communicating in person, and have suffered for that professionally.
I think having high IQ and being extroverted and a good "people person" (and/or a manipulator) goes the furthest.
That's not true at all. IQ loses correlation with leadership skills above 120, but it is still a strong predictor of success and income.
I'd say work ethic is just as important as IQ. Also a lot of highly intelligent people aren't well off because they either:
A) Lack the ability to implement what they know and take risks. They tend to play it safer and go with more sensible options.
B) They don't seem to realise we are in a market economy, where demand for skills is what drives the price people pay. If you are 150 IQ and you chose to pursue a career in archaeology, most people don't really have any need for what you offer.
I work at a prop trading firm and it is pretty much a microcosm of this exact thing. I have seen many highly intelligent guys try to make it as traders with engineering, high level mathetics degrees yet none of them make it while some of our best traders never went to uni. The difference is while all the high IQ academically gifted guys are concerned about not being wrong, the less intelligent guys learn by doing and taking risks. High IQ basically over analyse.
