McDonald’s hires people with no skills, paying them a wage mandated by law, which is more than they are worth.

Once they’ve worked for a while, and not even a long while, they are less of a risk, they are no longer unskilled, they need less training, they can work with less supervision, they take less time to manage, then the company has to focus on retention, which is done by incentivizing the employee not to seek alternative employment, the incentive that is usually the most persuasive is more money.

Who cares about the prices, it's about the sad reality that currently it's cheaper to pay minimum wage to people than invest in machines that do the work AND there are people who are OK with that.

Robots are SO far away from programming you don't even understand. We don't have a model for abstract thought.

Right now AI just does certain algorithms. Which for things like playing chess or even go are doing just fine. Wiping the table and taking out the trash is STILL out of its reach, though. But not for long.

Even when McDonald's workers will be replaced by robots, programmers will still have work programming those robots. For a long time.

This, Google has been experimenting with self writing ais for a while now. At current state they mostly just steal working lines from other programs

I dunno if you've seen the nvidia AI showcase they showed at the start of the year, but the part I found interesting is the way it perceives the world around, we simply watch, listen, smell the world around and treat these things separately. Their AI made a fucking 3d map of everything around based on everything at once with itself in the middle . From vision, vibrations in the air, an algorithm in what things should look like in rain, sun, winter, night. It sees everything at once. Imagine when a shitton of these communicate in a hive mind.
