It is like suddenly Ukraine being in EU. Mostly poor, corrupt, chronic issues, but with financial support from Brussels, some progress in becoming a decent country and good business opportunities because of EUand as a result - more wealth. We were somewhat alike in mid-00s, but now Romania is a step or two ahead of us.
Gypsies are mostly a meme, but Romanians still aren't rich or productive. Probably they'll be fine in a decade or so, situation there continuously gets better. Although their corruption is just bad.
