What kind of evolutionary advantage does liking beautiful people give us?

Humans are attracted to pretty things. That's about it, there is nothing genetic in it. We live in a society where being pretty is all that matters now, being strong or smart (things that actually matter genetically speaking) is almost irrelevant these days.

I wasn't debating whether good-looking people were inherently smarter or not, only that they generally are when tested.
And I'd assume that the studies determined rheir intelligence with iq tests or such and ensured they hadn't seen test subject's face so as not to be biased.

Beyond basic not-being-obviously-unhealthy, not much. It's a runaway sexual selection feedback loop. Traits that have been associated with health and genetic potential in the past got selected into the partner selection pathways in people's brains and due to positive reinforcement (more attractive kids have more kids, so people care about looks more which means more attractive kids have more kids..) has become increasingly pronounced in the absence of stronger selectors such as physical fitness, eyesight, immune system, ability to work, etc

Nah, uglier people are more likely to have had rough and violent childhoods, and come from historically low-class bloodlines (rich guys fuck beautiful women, usually). Of course it's not a perfect correlation but like with everything else in highly complex, interconnected systems there is probably not just one causal link but many.

That would be correlation, not causation. Better looking people are on average smarter, but that's not to say being better looking was entirely what was at the root of it.

m8 the theory around those is that having unwieldy feathers is a sign that your genes are so good you can survive even by having them.

Mainly the traits that are attractive are signs of good genes. For example symmetric face means that your immune system was good enough to allow you to grow properly, having diseases can take away resources that you would use for the complicated task that is symmetric growth. Other traits are signs of good hormone levels.

Facial symmetry is a sign of healthy development and better genetics. I mean if you're genes can't form a face uniformly than they's a strong chance something else went wrong
