I take one look at Hiragana and get overwhelmed. What do?

Attached: 1522599166256.png (720x806, 362K)

start very small
dont give up

take out a pen and pencil learn to write あ (a) then write it 20 times than learn repeat for い (i) え (e)
お(o) and う(u) congratulations you can now read all the vowels

I more or less can recognize the vowels. What about the other 30 or so?

they're all lined up in columns of five each modifying the vowels by adding a consonant before it learn the columns one at a time the same way you learn the vowels

What's overwhelming, exactly? Just see how they're organized by vowels/consonants and learn them, man.

I've reached about 200 kanji (Kyōiku kanji) and I'm starting to remember some basic grammar rules. Overall I'm pretty happy I'm making some progress even though its not much.

Good art, what is this?

Very cute! Keep it up, user, it's a long journey but looking back gets increasingly rewarding as you go.

Is it true ては is similar to たら but is talking about something more negative? I tried googling "食べ過ぎては太る" and "食べ過ぎたら太る" but the たら one got far more results even though it seems like it'd be a more negative statement.

Not sure about these nuances, but if you're having trouble understanding the grammar, just thing of the て as the same as るのは.

So instead of saying 食べ過ぎるの(こと)は太る, you say 過ぎては.

Just from this I don't see why it'd be more used for negative sentences, although that might just be a pattern people got used to.

M-maybe if I'm really unlucky and these games are piratable on a PC I could end up being forced to play it by the circumstances.
But not because I liked it or anything, I j-just... GEEZ, I JUST WANT SOME JAPANESE PRACTICE? ALRIGHT? You dummy egghead.

Is it common to spend 1-2 hours on Anki if you just started up?

Don't watch this

Attached: 1518757127503.png (1000x1000, 29K)

that's 2 hours you could've spent reading (something that will actually train your memorization) instead of pressing 'again' on every card cause anki doesn't work for you.

no problem
is3.Jow Forums.org/gif/1532545809040.webm

Anki consistently took me 1 hour to do for around 2 years. Only recently it's been going down (to around 30~40 minutes). I don't do 20 new cards a day anymore, though, only around 10.

forgot to ask, but what do you do for work that you have japanese co-workers?

I haven't finished Tae Kim yet, I want to get a somewhat decent understanding of the grammar before I start reading at least.

get a decent foundation on grammar, read simple a manga/VN and use a dictionary (grammar & vocab) religiously for a while, then move on to harder stuff from there (w/ less dependency on dictionaries).
better yet, don't ask the same worn out questions and just read the guide so this stuff doesn't have to get repeated every time.

A short while back there was a Polish user who was interested in the "mascots" used on the alternative op site. There are another bunch of images to be added to the random rotation for the main page and the main manga page but I decided to upload a version of the source file resolution before adding the resized images. These are primarily for that Polish user, I figure that the larger size is more flexible for whatever it is you are doing with these.
They are in the folder called "_original size"
I'll add them to the alternative site and alternative size backup mega afterwards, as their smaller, resized for web images.

The alphabet really isn't hard.
Half of it is just the same symbols plus some dots or a circle. It only took me a couple days to memorize it.

Attached: てゐ.webm (840x472, 144K)

Hello my friends. I am currently going through Core 2k/6k and noticed the following for 空く:
Core2k lists "あく" as "to get empty" and "すく" as "to be empty". However Jisho lists them as exactly the reverse. Which one is correct, or are they both the same?

oops I meant to say ゐ

There are a few duplicate cards in core2/6k, the best thing to do is put them on the one card, and delete the other
When it comes due, you remember both definitions, or fail it
With proper context, its rarely a concern

I see thanks!
Just to make sure though, the two different readings of 空く would mean the same?

ゐ do not talk about ゐ

>two different readings of 空く would mean the same?
No it is read differently to mean something else. And other words have different readings and mean exactly the same thing
Wonderful isn't it

Which one of the two is the correct one then, the Jisho or the Core2k one?
And truly wonderful

Jisho lists 開く below it, which also comes as a variant 空く(あく) so it has a card in core.

What does ありゃあせんか mean here? The first bit is something about an empty life but the second half looks more like slang

Ah yes, but I mean mostly the difference in meanings from Jisho and the Deck. Which one should I follow?

すく vs あく
すく:the number of things/persons decreases/becomes fewer.
あく:things/persons go away and there is nothing/no one now.

e.g.
√このレストランはすいています(This restaurant is not crowded.)
×このレストランはあいています
[if you want to say the restaurant is open, you are correct.]

√(ホテルで)今夜、あいている部屋はありません(We don’t have any vacant rooms for tonight.)
×今夜、すいている部屋はありません

That's a square root, not a check mark

sorry
このレストランはすいています
×このレストランはあいています
今夜、あいている部屋はありません
×今夜、すいている部屋はありません

sorry but i dont know how to type that symbol

You can't on Jow Forums

do you guys know the word 胸熱(胸アツ)?

No
My popup dictionary says something about being overcome with emotion

yeah it's a common slang word predominantly used to describe scenes which flamboyantly excite readers or watchers in manga / anime, just like this guy.
youtu.be/z0l4sZnBq2s

is there any slang word in English precisely equivalent to it?

>is there any slang word in English precisely equivalent to it?
Not so neatly in one word without being implicitly derogative

I don't think so, fired up is as close as I've seen.
I'm fired up (closer to 燃える)
This scenes fires me up (closer to 胸熱)

scene*

a typical example sentence is like
>ラスボスを倒すために、ライバルが主人公の仲間になるのは、超胸熱な王道展開だ。
it is a super-muneatsu mannerism that an arch-nemesis with whom the protagonist has fought participates in his party in order to beat the last villain.

ah sad, it's very frustrating when i can't find exact English words corresponding to Japanese words i want to use
>fire up
this seems pretty close, thank you very much. added to my vocabulary list

胸アツ is goddamn good

Stop thinking about English definitions so hard - get the GIST of the definition and learn some Japanese before thinking about minor nuances, because eventually you'll be able to get iit and even read Japanese definitions for more precision.

And things often connect. You see a lot of "あいている" floating around for open places, and the word for gap/opening is 隙 (すき), which is basically すく conjugated as a noun. Once you have enough knowledge, patterns will emerge and words will give footing to each other.

youtu.be/uWD4_nZsh4U?t=47
Does this count?

Be taken aghast. Become speechless. Get pumped up. Hyped. Fired up. Roused up. To be breath-taking (of the work).
