A significant proportion of Swedes and Danes would prefer to be part of a 'Nordic union' between Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Iceland rather than the European Union, a new poll shows.
47 percent of Swedes and 45 percent of Danes polled said they would prefer the Nordic option, while only 32 percent of the former and 36 percent of the latter said they preferred the EU (the rest said they didn’t know)
Those polled in Norway were given a third option, owing to their unique situation among the three countries as non EU members. More than half (52 percent) said they would continue with the country’s current level of partnership with the EU, while 31 percent opted for a Nordic union, and only 10 percent chose EU membership.
>Netherlands and Germany No. No way. The Swiss are welcome.

If Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Iceland formed a country, it would be:
- the ninth most populous country in Europe at 21.2 million people - the second largest country in Europe after Russia regardless of whether or not Greenland was included, at 3.146 million sq. km or 0.979 sq. km respectively - the economy with the seventh largest GDP in Europe at $1.29 trillion USD - the economy with the fourth largest GDP per capita at $60,849, which is impressive because the three higher ones (Luxembourg, Switzerland, and Ireland) are wealthy primarily because of their status as tax havens
All of these factors taken together actually makes me think that a Nordic union would be a lot like Canada. Each of the four nations could greatly increase their global prestige in international institutions by joining, and they would have a far greater impact on Arctic security as a single state.
The Finnish and Estonian public won't accept it. Swedes are perceived as former colonizers in Finland, much as Anglo-Saxons are in Quebec. The truth is that you don't need these countries. They can act as a neutral buffer zone between Scandinavia and Russia. Besides, having only Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Iceland would make it easier to form a strong federal government, which is desirable and necessary.

We're not going down that road again. Fuck off

>The truth is that you don't need these countries. That's like Prussia telling Austria they don't need Hungary, and should just go join Germany instead. The baltics are an integral part of Sweden. If the op survey was taken in Estonia, a majority would support rejoining Sweden. FACT.

>Swedes are perceived as former colonizers in Finland, You don't know much. Nobody gives a shit about 200-800 year old shit. Tops as a bad example how Swedes didn't defend us after 600 years of paying taxes to Stockholm.
Empire times isn't an issue to anyone. A real problem would be the current nasty Scandi racism towards Finns.
Adrian Gomez
>Swedes are perceived as former colonizers in Finland unfortunately Jow Forums banter is not the most reliable source of political information. the average finn sees swedes as our brothers, even if this sentiment is probably not returned in kind.

I chose it to taunt Norwegians. Like how I'd call a pic of a osthyvel GreatestNorwegianInvention.jpg
But that just reinforces my point. A political union between Finland and Scandinavia would stir up old wounds that most people in Finland have left behind. A strong central government would be necessary for a Scandinavian union to be successful, and such a loss of independence simply wouldn't work out well for Finland.
if anyone here is a bunch of fascists waiting to happen it's us

>A strongly worded letter won't stop Italy etc.
I'd be curious how much Italy benefits from having access to natural resources imported from Scandinavia. Scandinavia, collectively, would be a resource power, and they could use it to geopolitical ends just like Russia does.

Just telling how you behave. What's the problem?
It doesn't reinforce since your first argument was invalid. You happened to be right but your reasoning was wrong.

Not really, Portugal at least is based. Spain is alright. It's mostly Italy that one is concerned over.
The most toxic people out off All "Nordic" countries, just look at their comments in threads, truly mongolians, hate everything that isnt slanty eyed like Them.

you might have some kind of a point there, even though this "racism against finns" is mostly a meme cultivated by victim-complexed kang autists (not saying there aren't some genuine instances of it). however, I feel like more ppl in finland would support joining some kind of a nordic union over EU (source: my ass)
Kayden Hall
Victim complex? Most Finns are constantly kissing your ass

Although lets be real, people haven't forgotten about Franco and Estado Novo. The iberian fascist dictatorships are still very much in living memory.

Don’t do it dude, everything gets held up in a beaurocratic nightmare and it’s always possible one orange retard can swoop in and kill your democracy. Be glad you have a small democratic country.
