Why did Spain become a tertiary power when Britain and France became merely secondary ones? Spain had a ton of advantages, but it's now like the eighth most important European country and can't even resolve Gibraltar in a way favorable to itself.
Why did Spain become a tertiary power when Britain and France became merely secondary ones...
>plus ultra
dankass meme, and on their damn flag, guud lawd
*sabotages their own ship to justify taking over some islands in the Caribbean*
*civil war in Spain, Nazis test new weapons on civilians, worthy people flee the country, many send their children to Russia or the UK*
*40 years of fascist dictatorship, after which a monarchy is imposed, no real choice, people take it since anything would be better than a dictatorship*
*Bourbons being Bourbons, high ranking and VIP fascist put their kids in every single relevant political party*
*builds lots of condos, don't have enough people to move in*
The gold was cursed.
They reap what they sow.
They are baboons
Their worst mistake was refusing Napoléon’s enlightened rule
Moctezuma's revenge
the plus ultra pillars are the reason the dollar symbol has two bars, google it
they must really really like My Hero Academia to change their flag like that
kinda weebish, but whatever
Spain was a secondary power for a long time.
Then the carlists decided to spend half of the XIX century creating civil wars to suppress anything modern and restore the middle ages status quo. After losing all the wars, they created basque nationalism to continue fucking everybody up in even more imaginative ways
And then there are the catalonians who were subsidised and privileged and will secede if we dare to try to treat them as equals
If the commies won you would be even worse off.
You ought to trust me on this one
This, now they are paying for stealing the INCA, MAYA AND MEXICA (AZTEC) GOLD.
Devuelvan el loro
>can't even resolve Gibraltar in a way favorable to itself
Just revoke the treaty of Utrecht duh
>Catholic nation that wanted to stop Protestantism from balkanizing Europe and weakening it during an increasingly dangerous Ottoman muslim incursion.
>Used by the Austrians to fight wars all over Europe created a lot of bad blood between Spain and the rest of Euros, coupled with being the largest military force and empire in its time.
>Several consecutive wars culminating in Napoleon stabbing Spain in the back and invading+shattering the peninsula.
>During this time perfidious Albion spread it's tentacles in Spanish colonial territories and helped revolutionaries like Simon Bolivar (who later regretted his revolution).
>Coming out of the Napoleonic war, losing most of it's empire, going through a civil war shortly after made it difficult for Spain to keep up with industrialized nations like Britain.
>U.S. decided to falseflag an attack and start a war with Spain(who had helped them along with the French to get their independence) and finally killed the Spanish empire once and for all.
>This leads to another violent civil war and decades of Fascism and isolationism in Spain.
>Modern Spaniards have been taught to hate their history and think of the legacy of Spain is mediocrity and stupidity.
>Modern Spaniards want to be more "european" and destroy their culture, balkanize and ultimately are more self-hating and cucked than Swedes.
I think I covered most points.
>t. Spanish/Amerillard dual citizenship
As much as I don't like Spain because of historical memes and national duty, "plus ultra" is a fucking bad-ass motto for a country.
>I don't like Spain because of historical memes and national duty
It's too bad they have forgotten the meaning of the words. To go further beyond. It really is a pretty GOAT motto.
It's a better motto contextually. Presumably Spain (actually Hispania, including and mostly Portugal in this actual case) was thought to be the edge of the known world by the Romans, so they said "no further beyond".
When Spain discovered America (even by being dumb) they got the name "further beyond". Which in English sounds like a tech slogan, but it's still pretty good.
I think the Germans feel the same way about you frogs.
Catholic radicalism and kings with retardism
T. Spaniard
Do all Mexicans really believe the "Spanish stole all the gold" meme? I mean, Mexico City was the richest capital in the Americas and far more advanced than Madrid for nearly a century.
We just pushed spain out of the game just like you pushed Russia out of the game.
Yeah, Non plus ultra changed to plus ultra. It's pretty cool. Same with "Empire where the Sun never sets." They had good naming sense, I'll give them that.
I prefer a motto in native language.
Our army motto is "Em perigos e guerras esforçados" which means "Forceful in dangers and battles" and that is pretty badass
>commies
Not everyone in 1936 was a commie or a fashy you know.
Spain had a century of decadence when Napoleon, and the cause of the fall of the empire were other Spaniards (or descendants) in the new world, and not France.
Latin gets a pass by me, if it's a romance country, but I agree.
Do we really have that motto, though? I never heard it before, only the "Esta é a ditosa pátria minha amada", but even that is just the armed forces' motto, not the country.
The Monarchy's motto used to be "In Hoc Signo Vinces (Latin: "In this sign you shall conquer")", about Jesus's apparition to D. Afonso Henriques in the battle of Ourique according to Camões.
The Republicans were fucking useless though. I wonder how Spain would have been if that Moorocan manlet Franco had been killed and Jose Antonio had taken over instead. He actually had some pretty bright ideas and a very different version of fascism than Mussolini or Hitler.
Napoleon raping and pillaging through the peninsula sure didn't help any....
>flag
If you read my post I said it was the army one
Nice argument there bud.
I can't read. BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRL
This. And our 19th century was also shit full of civil wars, corruption and disregard of any technological or industrial revolution.
Russkies have the gold now, so they're the cursed ones now.
Sad but true.
>tfw José Antionio was a radical centrist
Fernando VII
>Catholic radicalism
Even nowadays, notice how the pope sucks nigger toes and tolerates fags and feminists.
