It's still pretty common here, but it can really fuck you up. Since I have memory, always been a pacifist person but still eager to learn and try new stuff, but my dad used to beat me a lot specially when I committed mistakes, he even hit me once while in school in front of everyone because I failed a subject, so I became afraid of failure hence afraid of trying new things, then videogames arrived to my life as a convenient escape, then cartoons, anime, internet and Jow Forums. Decided to study CS because of all of my time invested on pc's as a loner, not because I'm really into it but is the only way of life I've known.

Beating your kids comes as a very last resort for really serious shit, but I never did anything dumb, just wanted to discover a hobby and be a damn normal person with schedules, social life and just mind my own business.

If my parents "punished" me with days without playstation, I would be shooting schools.
