I'm culturally Jewish

>I'm culturally Jewish
Why do Americans say this and what does it even mean?

Non practicing, doesnt know shit about the religion but says words like schlep and eats bagels
>t. Culturally jewish

They don't believe in the religion but remain a part of the Jewish covenant for the friendship, food, social event, identity, and nepotistic benefits it offers. Like how many people go to Church on Christmas not because they believe in Christianity but because it's just what people in your culture do.

They mean they're part of the American Jewish cult

it means they're american. everyone here is culturally jewish

It is the reason they are successful. More than faith what you need is a community to feel a part of, marry into, and use nepotistically. White people should do the same

1. Goyim don't identify as culturally Jewish
2. I spin the dreidel weeeeeee

>You know, I've memorized Lerner and Golden
>I feel like I'm almost a Jew

Means you regularly watch Seinfeld

Jews are an ethnicity and Judaism is a religion

Problem is "Jewish" applies to both
So when people say they're Jewish it can either mean that they are ethnically (or culturally, whatever) Jewish, or that they practice Judaism, or both.
I think the ethnic part is more important to kikes though; I'm sure a lot of them don't really give a shit about their religion. They didn't earn their reputation by being faithful, God-fearing people that's for sure.

There are also gentiles who seem to engage with aspects of Jewish culture. Mild example of this would be Borges. Then there are also several instances in history of mass conversion of christian sects to judaism, with the subbotniks being the most well known.

Most Jews marry non-Jews, more than half Jews marry outside of their ethnicity so it's not like they care about ethnicity all that much. Jews in the US are mostly liberal and don't care about race/ethnicity, and orthodox Jews just vare about if you follow their rules, not ethnicity

>Most Jews marry non-Jews, more than half Jews marry outside of their ethnicity

This is unique to American Jews within recent history (past several decades). You haven't said anything wrong, but it's instructive to remember that historically endogamy was more strictly observed in European Jewish communities than it is today.

Well it was illegal for Jews and Christians to marry in most of Europe for most of European history, but after Jews assimilated and laws became more liberal, Jews married non-Jews often. There were many mischlings in pre-Nazi Germany

they may marry non-Jews, but they make the goy convert to Judaism before marriage. Thus, any children from that marriage are Jewish

Hm fair enough. Incidentally I recently discovered through genealogical research that my paternal grandmother was ethnically Jewish from Belarus. I know nothing about how she came to be a practicing christian, however.

So the whole "Jewish mothers pressuring their children to marry other Jews " stereotype is bullshit?

It means I'm not Jewish but I wish I was

No, from what I understand the pressure still exists but it depends on whether the family is orthodox, reform, etc., and also it seems the tendency for endogamy is substantially attenuated among american jews. pic related is my source

>but they make the goy convert to Judaism before marriage
No they don't. Most Jews aren't religious (in the US anyway) and only practice Hanukkah and maybe Passover.

I think it depends on how religious the mother is. My mother was conservative but not orthodox and she did want me to marry another Jew, but "Jew" in this scenario means religion, not ethnicity. I don't think Atheist/reform Jews care
