Your country

Apparently wemeet the criteria but barely. It's ok I guess
high speed what?
*5 mil europoor intensifies :')*
Fleg
Yeah it's ok
It's alright, but it's not serving me personally any use because it used to go through town and even stop here occasionally, but they've finished a new track this year and now I have to ride the nowheretrain to the next bigger city for the best part of an hour to even reach it.
Also you can only rarely take a bicycle on high speed trains.
And they're expensive.
our high speed trains are fucking trash
they cost a gorillion, can reach 320 km/h in theory, but in reality they fuck around with 80-140 km/h and arrive 1-2 hours late
Why did you post a high speed coffin?
Trains in my area are only used by rich people who don't want to sit in traffic
They are not affordable for regular use by us poors
Terrible waste of taxpayer money
sure
although it's gotten expensive to a stupid degree over the last decade
Traina in Europe were disappointgly not cheap too.
Is there any country with fast and cheap trains? Japan maybe?
what is high speed rail sir
I'm happy we get up to 160 km/h and everything is so close.
train fare of our HST is much more expensive than euro HST
Trains are never cheap, the only question is to what extent you want to finance them through taxes versus tickets.
What the fuck area is that
this
I took the smaller lines that took 3 hours to visit my parents because the TGV was about 35 euros while the TER was 18
but the small line doesn't exist anymore so I take the car now
>commuter train
>high speed rail
Pick one retard
High speed Trains are overrated expensive shit. Don't know why people are so obsessed over them.
>that map
I came
We spend $450 billion a year on roads and highways, dumbass
We don't and that's a good thing.
Speed it overrated, it's more important to have swiss-like integrated connections.
Which we don't really have either.
That swiss company SMA even made a network graph nearly a decade ago which was supposed to be developed into an actual integrated network, but not much has happened in that aspect. Compared to Switzerland's it has tons of irregular exceptions and overall shit frequencies.
Highways provide more utility than passenger trains
And our highways are still ugly noisy shit. Wish we had usable passenger rail here.
There are private companies trying to build high speed rail in the US, but Republicans keep blocking them.
>but Republicans keep blocking them.
buhhhh republicans
always gotta have a boogeyman
I find it insane how a country as big/rich as the US has such shit rail infrastructure. Investing so much in cars/roads instead of other means of transport was a huge mistake.
prove me wrong
You answered your own question. We're big and rich
Move to Europe or Japan if you want trains
t. has no clue what he’s talking about
True, it costs us a ton of money in other ways. Not least of which are road accidents; it’s the leading cause of death for American minors.
Mostly we subsidize driving because the Koch Brothers fund the Republican Party, and they run an oil/asphalt company.
Very....
its more like a lot individual dont want to lose their jobs. if you build good railways, the corps will get the business instead.
we need it to send the Brits back home after their shitty local football club has lost.
We have trains, we're in the process of building a new high speed rail line right now.
Deutsche Bahn is the biggest trash company in Germoney pretty sure.
We have based railway network, but I don't know about high speed links. There are some speed trains between Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny and Kazan, but I don't know if they are high enough to be high speed rail by your standart.
>I get butthurt when you mention facts
Republicans are retarded hypocrites and have no qualms using the government to block high-speed rail enterprises. That’s a fact.
is it built by chinks
Did you ever go to Europe. Trains are fucking expensive. It's not worth all that investment
Chinks build German trains, won't work in the UK
Trains are a comfy way of traveling. I prefer it over flying or driving myself.
Florida here, we’re getting high speed rail between Orlando and Miami. Hope they do it between other major cities around the South (Atlanta Nashville Charlotte would be best).
>t. has no clue what he’s talking about
Not an argument
I thought trains in Europe were a really nice way to travel. I never saw why anyone cared about trains until I rode one over there.
A lot of US regions are the ideal density for high-speed trains, too. It would save our government a lot of money instead of continually throwing money at highways. Grow up.
yes, but considering the huge mileage of US roads to cover, is this even enough ?
>Republicans are retarded hypocrites and have no qualms using the government to block high-speed rail enterprises. That’s a fact.
Who signed Amtrak into law?
Texas might actually get an HSR line
Florida too (both red states)
Next
been to japan. The bullet train is operated every 10 min. So basically you don't need to ever catch a train in a hurry. If you miss one, just take the next in 10min. And you don't need to arrive 90min early like you do in airport. It's very convenient. The domestic flights in Japan are pretty empty as a result.
We actually have amazing rail infrastructure. But it's for shipping, not people really.
Also a lot of Americans don't know this but trains are a cool way to go on distant vacations. Like if you want to visit the south or something.
I told did you see the prices. They are simply expensive
>Texas might actually get an HSR line
Wow you are less informed than I thought...
They’ve been trying to build one for 4 years and haven’t been able to because of all the republicans trying to block it. They do have backing from the Kochs though.
Canada could really benefit from high speed rail going from Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal, but there are no plans for it. Probably because MUH CAR CULTURE.
For example I went to Kentucky from the Canadian border and it was $175 or something both ways and took 5 1/2hours or so. Completely painless compared to driving that distance. If I drove I would've saved like, idk $80 or something but whatever.
If it was that simply Cal HSR would already be under construction, but it's not
Texas HSR
Florida HSR
Nixon created Amtrak
>but Republicans,
>but Republicans,
>but Republicans,
Get a new act
We don’t have high speed rail and I am not satisfied with our own railroad system because it’s just fucking expensive. I mean I’m sure it’s cheaper than car maintenance + parking + fuel costs + etc but it doesnt beat fuel cost alone
Pro tip: all over Europe complaining about the national railroad system is a meme everyone participates in.
Trains are fine for what they do. They bring people from fixed point A to fixed point B smoothly and efficiently. They are best at what they do but their options are limited and people expect too much from them
>Cal HSR would already be under construction, but it’s not
Damn this kid is a retard...
Ad hom attack. You lost.
Nice. As oil prices continue to go up and more Americans move to city centers (an ever-growing trend in the US), I think high speed rail will expand here.
Why specifically high speed? It is very expensive and not that great.
“High speed” by American standards just means like 200km/hr
Ideally I’d go for diesel-electrics because it’s cheap and goes plenty fast.
We use diesel electrics for local railroads, like the ones connecting smaller towns to nearby cities. It works well but is equally fast as a car.
Problem with this is that to build rail lines for 200km/hr trains would be insanely expensive. I think that if the freight services started running passenger services again then it would be possible to at least get lines that go around 125km/hr with semi-reliable time tables up and running. From there higher speed development might be possible. Alternatively, and this is a heavy handed approach, the Feds could force the freight lines to give preference to Amtrak which would give them a huge boost to arriving on time and average speed. That would probably have some huge negative effects on freight service though obviously.
