There is a difference between "going missing" aka running away from home for a day, or fucking around somwhere, and actually going missing where no one had any clue where you are for weeks on end. Most cases are the former, this is the later.

I knew someone who "went missing" once, but me and several other people knew exactly where she was. This isn't like that.

Might not have time during the day to do it. Iowa is a very rural and safe (white) place. There's a reason why this is such a shocking thing.
