santorini is planned urban development with infrastructure. favelas are lawless illegal squatting structures haphazardly built and maintained.

Forgot to mention that Rio favelas are a selection of modern aluminium and concrete structures for the poor while Santorini is also a bit of a historical monument built with stones in a medieval sprawl layout surrounded by churches and townhouses with symbolic value away from any modern city and isolated from traffic.

The material and monuments have little to no value for everyday life though

Actually it's probably the other way around. Santorini is a well maintained historical layout with picturesque natural sprawl and narrow stairway streets while Rio favelas are planned shit tier urban sprawl for underdogs

You realise that pic isn't downtown Stockholm? Nobody lives there anymore, it's bought out for a million per cube by rich yacht owners who have other residences and visit every now and then or rent them out for honeymoons. Santorini has other living quarters but they generally are built in the sugarcube manner even on big streets and such. That blue dome church you see there, is a national monument filled to the brim in frescoes and gold, the houses are also minimum 100 years of age going back 200-300, the old/beauty combination and the view raises that shit a thousandfold.

Look at the way they're alligned along a street, it's not good planning but it's more planned than Santorini. Planned=/=good. And no I am not retard.

Honestly athens is fine for what it is, it looks like shit from above especially but because of this it doesn't attract too many tourists like other european capitals which means it can remain as a working city, while the rest of the country that would normally lose relevance actually gains jobs and people through tourism. Plus all those horrible looking apartment blocks in athens actually contain good and spacious flats and at good prices. If athens was like lisbon people wouldn't even be able to find a place to stay due to rented out apartments.
