yeah i noticed that too when i started zooming out

Why do we still use mercator projections on a 3d global model? Couldn't we just make a digital globe where everything is to scale?

do you also spend hours scrolling though google maps?

Now whitoids can realize how fucking big africa is.

Dude, Polynesians accomplished far more than blacks despite having less than a percent of the black population historically. There was no written script in sub-Saharan Africa prior to Europeans/Arabs, yet Rongorongo and Woleain were things.

Holy shit, nice. When did they update GMaps?

We use mercator and other distorting projections, because you can't flatten a sphere without distorting it.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaussian_curvature#Theorema_egregium

Since a sphere of radius R has constant positive curvature 1/R^2 and a flat plane has constant curvature 0, these two surfaces are not isometric, even locally. Thus any planar representation of even a part of a sphere must distort the distances. Therefore, no cartographic projection is perfect.

i don't get it

laughing at you countries without splendid isolation

Perth would be the most isolated city in the world but Auckland is further from a million+ city by like 20 kilometres

Is it not slightly scary being down there all by yourselves?
