White people are still by far the largest demographic everywhere except maybe Markham and Richmond Hill.

We went from 22 million european canadians to around 20 million european canadians + ~11 million "canadians", between 81 and 2011 That means we have added ~9 million whites through immigration and birth. Maybe, it makes sense. I'm no expert.

Nevertheless, the largest demographic isn't necessarily a majority.

30 year difference is a long time + not all "Canadians" are necessarily white.
Also the baby boomers haven't started to die yet, meaning that each birth was nearly a direct addition (see below). Once the boomers start going white % will surely plummet.
