If you aren't averse to cheesing, mobilize before the war event fires. Also, disable automatic general creation and assignment to manually select the generals you need. Capitalizing on a general's strengths (i.e. defend with high defense generals, attack with high attack generals, outmaneuver with high speed generals, etc.) can make a real difference.

idk i always found machinegun defensive bonus to be overpowered so i just baited ai into machinegun ambushes by making him attack me and when all of his troops are dead i just occupy everything with no resistance

guess that is a more general advice and splitting usa early is more of a local one, but if it works it works

Honestly I don't agree generally either. The attack has so many advantages Machine Guns isn't even that good. The artillery line is by far the most important army tech until Military Directionism; that and doctrine are all you really need if you don't want to colonize

When I had a Windows Phone, I used to play Sengoku Jidai, fortunately there's still the Windows 10 version but never got an Android release. Really simple conquest game.
