Hi koreafrens, I was watching anthony bourdains parts unknown about koreatown and the subject of "han" came up. They described it as a cultural thing that koreans feel resentment about injustice or something like that. Could you guys explain this for me? It sounds interesting but its really confusing.
Korea has a culture of oppressing the lower classes under the influence of confucianism, corruption of the leaders and invasions of various countries.
The nationalists literarily glorified it and called it the sentiment of "Han"
so, in short, i think "Han" is a bullshit.
btw what does anthony bourdains have to do with "han"?
>"Han" is a bullshit.
this. btw it was actually some jap scholar who popularize this bullshit during occupation era
anthony bourdain was a well known traveller who explored various cultures for American TV. He was really well known for being genuine and trying to actually document cultures realistically, instead of as a tourist like most Americans.
So I guess for 'Han', he was just trying to bring up a cultural point in Korea that isn't talked about much
