Russia has imperialist goals, that's obvious. These goals are a result of 2008/2009 crisis that was a main reason for which Russia stopped respecting constructivist order created by the USA, and generally speaking "Western world" (that doesn't exist anymore as a unity, it is just a mosaic of countries with different interests, very often contradictory ones). Russia since 2008 is preparing itself for full denial of post-war order in Europe, and not only here, by the way. It also wants to be a key player in Arctic that it perceives as a storage of natural resources that could help Russian "economy" to exist for next decades. Arctic is also a very important place from perspective of Chinese-Russian cooperation ("Polar Silk Road" - which is in my opinion not very promising project so far because China and Russia would still need to defeat American navy in Bering Strait and GIUK gap to trade through Artcic, which will be impossible for a long time yet. Russia also wants to make its order in Central Asia, because it is aware that Chinese Silk Road would go through southern perimeter of Russia effectively contributing to its disintegration. So Russia also tries to play with the USA against China, just like it plays with China against the USA: to improve its bargaining position.
But we shouldn't forget that Russia has weakest geopolitical position in its whole imperial history since Ivan the Terrible. Its demography yet in XIX century was predicted to be 700 mln at the end of XX century, in fact it is 140 mln and shrinking. Russia doesn't have enough population and economical power to control its huge territory currently, it suffers from huge dispersion. Its economy is practically non-existent, except of selling natural resources. Its weak demography causes huge recruting problems in the army. Centralisation of power demands a lot of resources being directed to financially support huge public administration (officials, police, and so on)....

Like what factors? Geopolitically Russia is in very difficult situation, almost tragic ones. Only nations of CEE alone that were a part of Russian empire yet 3 decades ago have in sum bigger population than Russian Federation and similar population growth trends as Russian Federation. All these countries currently switch to quasi-authoritarian rules to shorten decision process and begin to invest serious money in remilitarisation. Regional alliances are slowly being created as well, so far they are not being created fast only because NATO still exists, but as soon as the USA will begin to seriously prefer bilateral relations to multilateral ones, CEE will be uniting independently from the EU. Russia never found itself in such difficult situation. Moreover, even if we take out CEE out of calculations, it still has multiple times stronger (at least economically) Western Europe to its Western border from which it is dependent economically through selling hydrocarbons. It also has completely new and mega-powerful new factor to its Eastern-Souther border: the moloch of China that will have 1,7 bln people when Russia will struggle with 120 mln with current demographic trends. If the Silk Road is created the way Chinese plan through southern perimeter of Russia, all Russian satellite republics of Caucasus and Central Asia will begin totally gravitate towards Chinese money and influence which will massively contribute to Russia's even further disintegration. Even if we omit all these hard geopolitical facts, we must still admit that Russia - as a society - is probably irreverisbly degenerate. Despite this Kremlin-made propaganda about "moral purity", it is a country with Africa-tier corruption and very high criminal rate, the highest in Eurasia.

Your anger at me and personal opinions of this Russian diaspora guy in Latvia don't change hard facts. if Russia was able to dominate Eurasia again the way Soviet Union was, the USA would never perceive Russia as a potential ally in its conflict with China, or at least wouldn't try to buy Russian neutrality. Russia is important for the USA currently only as a geographic location joining both parts of Eurasia, hence having pivotal meaning in confrontation with China. But USA's elites know perfectly that Russia is unable to build empire anymore with its macroeconomic and demographic data.

We should never forget that Russia is a territory of heartland, hence practically disconnected from the maritime system of trade. It determines Russia's poverty forever as a systematic feature. Not really because Russians are more stupid than Brits or Germans, but because their geography implies a given model of economic growth. Moreover, Russian climat is very hard, it is extremely difficult to build a functional infrastructure in places with huge temperature fluctuactions. Roads that are being made in Russia are destroyed much faster than roads in other parts of the world not because Russians are dumb and can't build them, but because this infrastructure is exposed to more extreme weather conditions. Global warming won't have positive impact on these conditions as some in Russia probably hope, it will only make them more extreme according to serious predictions. Additionally, as i explained earlier the continental system of trade and investments created by China in opposition to sea-system created by the dominating American sea-empire won't contribute to strenght of Russia, but will vassalize it.
So in my opinion Russia has really no alternative for alliance with the USA in the long run. Even such classicians of Russian geopolitics like Dugin increasingly understand this. That's why Russia tries to rise the stakes in the incoming reconfiguration of the global order (that is being made by the USA itself that realized that Bretton Woods system doesn't serve its interests anymore) by pushing its forces to Syria without really having enough force to maintain realistic and long-term power projection there. Just because region of Levant is a very important interconnector between Asia and Europe and being active in this region is a form of geopolitical "company shares" in new deals about new order in the world.

Literally the only serious game that Russia is doing now is building A2AD systems on its borders that are also limes of the American empire. By creating access denial systems over airspace of f.e. Estonia, Russia tries to prove that American empire is overstretched and something should be done with it. But Russia is unable to build a long-standing empire in a constructive way anymore, because geopolitical factors are drastically different than in times of Stalin's Soviet Union. Russia is still able to spread chaos in a limited way hoping for being given a preferential position in the new Concert of Nations, so the USA would plug it into the core system of trade and capitalize Russia massively without turning it into its junior partner (which means accepting fact of existence of spheres of influence). So Russia bullies NATO with A2AD and snap exercises, pushes its rather symbolic forces to Syria and uses strategic signalling towards the USA to buy itself the best seat near the negotiation table. But will it succeed? Time will show. Anyway, all of this doesn't mean that Russia with its weak demography, while being an economical dwarf completely dependent on trade with Western Europe and increasingly also China, and having completely new geopolitical situation with China coming back as a global empire for the first time in many centuries and having natural ability of vassalisation of Russia has any chance to rebuild empire. Russian "empire" can be only a zone of destablisation like Ukraine from where people escape in millions and where wars, corruption, local oligarchic cliques destroy everything valuable inside.

Israel is in rather difficult geopolitical situation too now when the USA turned into offshore balancer in the Middle East. There is a serious internal "silent" conflict in Israel now amongst its elite. Trump with its lip service is slowly turning Netanyahu's Israel into a tool of imperialistic American policy. Israel wasn't such a tool even during Cold War, by the way. Moreover, Israel needs a strategic depth to survive in the long run. I think that it must attack Iran if it wants to exist. But will it continue to be USA's tool like Netanyahu seems to lead the country, or will it become more independent and trying to build local alliances instead, f.e. with Saudis and Russia.. Time will show. Very interesting times came now, let's hope they won't end up with WW3. I already explained earlier that Silk Road will eventually lead to disintegration and vassalisation of Russia. Russian elite knows it perfectly. Do you really think that Chineses announced the biggest infrastructural project in history of humanity to stop being hostages of sea trade routes, f.e. strait of Malacca that American navy can always block, only to push the project through continental Russia the way it would empower its neighbour and make China dependent on good or bad will of Russian elite? You must be kidding me. I already explained that China builds main artery of Silk Road through southern perimeter of Russian Federation which will glue off most of its remaining satellite states with time: all of them including Caucasus and Central Asia will be going away from Russia with time, making its geopolitical situation even more dire.
Being economically dependent on selling hydrocarbons to external powers is a weakness of Russia, not its strenght. Even last years proved that fluctuations of prices can be very radical, caused by multiple objective reasons on which Russia has no real influence, like technologial progress (including shale revolution in the US f.ee).

It is some marginal shit, statistically not significant at all. You must have in mind that not everybody who moved from Russia "as a Jew" to Israel is a real Jew. A lot of these people are not even considered jewish by Israeli rabbis who refuse to give them marriages with Jews for example. So they suffer there, and some of them (like few thousand) could indeed give up on Israel and come back to Russia, but it is a marginal process.

It is pointless. Their society is old and dying and birth rate is under replacement rate, moreover they have no economy to feed their shrinking population, they have not enough of human material to operate on this huge territory of theirs and protect it effectively and they have serious problems with recruiting to army. They have 150 mln of people from CEE countries on one side that still remember soviet occupation and don't wish to be managed by Russian Federation anymore, on the other side they have rapidly growing empire that has potential to vassalize Russia which is stronger than anything Russia ever faced in its history. It is better for Finland to invest in its own military strenght and become a part of local alliances that share the same geopolitical goals. In case of CEE countries, they should be not only investing more money in armies but also independent economical growth which is not based purely on Western (mainly German) investments.
