If Perry never came to japan I think there are two possible options:
- Nippon would not modernise and it would become colony of England, France or perhaps Russia and would probably regain independence somewhere in 20 century
- Nippon would modernise anyway, it was just matter of time before revolution come to japan imo but what kind of revolution would it be? Better than meiji or worse, I think meiji restoration went quite well
Japan went from feudal to modern society really fast and managed to maintain most of its culture and tradition

Yet despite all what you said without modern army, that needed modern industry, japan would stand no chance against western powers. Although japan was not really interresting material for colony because of it's lack of natural resources.Western powers would probably want to use japanese ports as their naval bases and suck money out of japanese society by selling them cheap goods massively produced in western manufactories. At worst, if Japan resisted too much it would meet fate similar to china. I think that Japanese have choosen wisely to trade with west at bad terms but still not as bad as they would be, meanwhile learning western technology and industrializing.

Okay be honest friends, do Japanese people always hate foreigners or are there exceptions? Such as if someone spoke Japanese fluently or up to native level, had a good and useful job, did not commit any crimes, and was polite and not obnoxious, and maybe he is a naturalized citizen or permenant resident, would people hate on him still? asking for a friend

I used to have many friends in Australia but I’m reluctant to make foreign friends here
It’s a bit exaggerated but unfortunately it’s not just a meme. It’s true. Gaijin are arrogant so they expect us to speak english even in Japan. That’s disgusting. So I try not to speak English when I see annoying gaijin customers at my workplace(a bar)
If they don't like you I guess they are just gonna avoid talking to you because of tatemae,
What I love about interacting with japanese people in real life is that most of them, when they meet foreginer are a little bit scarred, sometimes a bit embarassed but on top of that they seem to be very excited.
