Why do Europeans turn their nose up at timber frame houses and claim they don't last?

cause brick houses are better and will last longer you stupid fuck

What if it starts crumbling and falls down on you

>kicks your house down with a bare foot

>Why do Europeans turn their nose up at timber frame houses and claim they don't last?
I don't know my friend lives in one his ancestor built in 1720.

>Laughs as stupid Serb breaks his foot.

I'm sitting in a 250 y/o brick house, that stand because it doesn't fall apart if it's unmaintained for some 5-10 years. This house had probably been trough long periods of poor/none maintenance, but has been saved. You can't do that with wood. It's cheap, simple and practicall.

But the reason you don't seem to see them in Europe, is because they rot away. That's also way most of the around thousand (yes!) danish medieval "castles" didn't last into the 1800's. (Castles because most wasn't Disney/Hollywood sized. Would probably be refered to as a watchtower with a palisade by a city boy today)

Brick is longer lasting, sturdier, with more stable indoor climate (from time immemorial up to climate controlled houses) and requires much less maintenance.

My grandparents has a wooden summer house. It's getting painted and worked on every 2-3 years.

Europeans are subhuman

Timber houses lasts for a thousand years while bricks crumble and have to be changed.

A timber cabin is maximum comfy during winter.

2/10

I'm not even entertained. Trolls in this thread is so bad, that they can't even get me to argue any more. At first i thought OP made a legitimate question, an answered.

>My grandparents has a wooden summer house. It's getting painted and worked on every 2-3 years
Well that's why vinyl siding was invented. The only thing that should be a problem is if they have a wooden deck

We have several houses like these on our property, grass on the roof and copper drains, inside we have fireplaces made of stone (not cheap bricks of course). My own family built them themselves.

This is truth.

post danish castles

wood houses are fine so stop the US wood house meme. Neither wood nor brick will stop a high powered tornado like a lot of the US experiences and wood handles better in earthquakes due to it's flexibility. Log cabins are comfier too

This is how it can look if you have some cash. The front door is carved in viking style.

US houses are made of cardboard not wood. A real wood house is very durable.

vinyl siding looks god awful

>get drunk
>walk through a wooden wall
>oops

might as well move into a gypsy cardboard city
if its not made out of cement or brick its a toy house

is it like some royalty house?

No, one of the wealthiest norwegians own it. This is the kings cabin, the like it simple since they live in so much luxury anyways. Snob means si nobile.

You couldn’t build this in timber could you

Nice house you got

This is the oldest building in my state and has been around since 1660 or something. And the weather here is brutal.

tree houses are strongest.

brics are never gonna happen

Not necessarily, it all depends on the build quality and approach.
There are houses in England which have lasted for hundreds of years which are made of timber and not a single bolt or nail. These use a type of architecture based all around perfectly intersected joints and relying on gravity and the stress of the heavy timber to hold the frame firmly in place, really impressive craftsmanship.

do you even have any trees on your islands?

>You can't do that with wood
You can. Do you think wood doesn't hold up against the elements or something? There are forests out there with trees thousands of years old.

Would look majestic during the winter.

Nice, show a similar looking house please

our houses are made from strong norwegian wood, have been for centureies.

the oldest house was built in 1000, stands still, becuase of norway wood, very strong.

Portugal is the Narnia of Southern Europe.

Observing folk culture for an american only familiar with popular culture must be confusing.

It's amusing to see random Americans getting irritated when random Europeans behave as arrogant and ignorant as your average American behaves on Jow Forums. You fucks in general are happy to shit up entire threads mocking "yuropoors" on all other boards but the moment someone mocks something related to America or Americans, you act like a bitch and play the victim card.
It's as though Americans have a basic lack of self awareness online.

you're assuming that Jow Forumsposters and Jow Forumsposters are the same people which while there's an overlap I doubt the serious Jow Forumsposters who mock Europeans come here

m8 an Aussie has no right to talk down to any other country for it's contributions to the internet.

Especially America lmao

>cause brick houses are better and will last longer you stupid fuck
you are not nordic little g*rmany

scandinavia is full of old wooden houses

>*laughs as you hit a 4x4*

>LARPing as your peasant ancestors from the 19th century

fpbp

>be american
>lean against the wall because you're tired from eating
>it breaks

>hurrrdurrr woodern houses are great
>tempreture turns above 20c
>ohno im dieing please help

Not sure if fat joke or shifty wooden house joke.

I lived in an upper scale american timber house. At night it got ridiculously cold because the wood leaked so much heat.
The air heating and the wood walls meant the heat just disappeared especially at night.
Standard finnish hot water radiator heating and brick walls with layers and insulation is best. Holds heat. Stays cool in summer.

Also wood just fucking breaks why would you a house made of it?

This there was a stand of snags caused by a change in flooding where I grew up and they are still there and were before I was born.

cheap mexican made drywall joke

we have biggest wooden church in world. there is 3000 sitting places and 2000 standing

Attached: Kerimäen kirkko.jpg (1024x878, 182K)

Ah yeah Finnish household-centric structural engineers are renowned the world over.

How's this summer been in Scandinavia btw? Hm?

>I lived in an upper scale american timber house. At night it got ridiculously cold because the wood leaked so much heat.
>The air heating and the wood walls meant the heat just disappeared especially at night.
>I lived in an upper scale american timber house

No you didn't that sounds like shit.
It might have been expensive, but it wasn't built well.

That isnt how it works at all bud. Im a whole 300 lbs (not obese just 6'8 and lift) and can push my wall as hard as I want and it aint going to budge

We can afford to use cheap Mexican drywall because we know Jesus will keep us safe.

Do you Europeans think we only build 1 type of house?

Attached: 8lxA7yg.jpg (310x403, 24K)

>brick wall
you live in some shitty 80s rowhouse?

This what most danish castles would have looked like back then.

Attached: Spoettrup_Borg_MG_0082_SLKE.jpg (1690x830, 495K)

It sure looked expensive and it was on expensive property. They had people come over fix things all the time and it was about as good as you could get with money.
Actually they are thank you for asking. Finland is one of the leading countries in central cooling development as well with giant sea water tanks already operational under Helsinki.

It's always a thing when foreigners (except for scandinavians) come to Finland and they realize for the first time the weather doesn't effect you inside. There's nothing crazy about being in your undershorts in a comfy 21c even if it's -20c outside.

>and it was about as good as you could get with money.

I build houses, you get what you pay for.

1951
also my uncle is an american architecture (:D) and he built his own house and it was 3 stories tall and made of wood and great but he built his second from brick and it turned out even better :D true story believe it or not but those are cases where I can trust they built it right. I don't know about the house I stayed in.

You simply can not argue how superior brick and concrete mechanics are in comparison to fucking wood.

Not even to mention we arent talking about saphires, diamonds or platinum here. Its rock. It forms itself naturally. By itself. You can just cut near infinite of it out of the ground. Heat and pressure will simply create enough limestone and brick everywhere.
Not even to mention that it can lasts for thousands of years unless some seriously fucked up natural disasters like volcanoes happen.

Enjoy your zero mechanization required home invasions. You can essentially kick yourself a way in.

>also my uncle is an american architecture
s-saarinen?

also the new house is built on bedrock like a finnish house and he had to go to another state to find a contract who could do that :D we do that all the time. much sturdier than a concrete basement.

wooden houses smell nice :3

Attached: typical-swiss-wooden-house-mountain-village-switzerland-wattenwil-canton-bern-bernese-still-life-cou (900x600, 547K)

no he's american for real he married my finnish aunt. they live in maine he has a small architect office. I don't know what kind of houses he builds for clients but I hope he brings finnish influence and enlightenment to the new world. He built a sauna in his old wooden house :D Proper finnish sauna too had to import the kiuas himself.

looks mouldy, 2bh

I never realized but Denmark is the dumbest nordic country. Why isn't Denmark part of Sweden or Norway, or even Germany? I know Denmark used to have power over its neighbours, but now they are barely more powerful than luxembourg.

houses in Maine are relatively similar to Scandinavian homes, at least compared to the rest of the US
only place I've seen people do bold paint colors

cringe

get back in the fucking field my bacon isnt going to make itself legonigger

It's true tho. You are the lesser version of your neighbour regarding everything. They do literally everything better than you, and they could invade your country with 10% of their military.

the Germany army couldn't invade Merkel's blown out cunt at this moment

He's not wrong, you know...

I'm talking about Sweden and Norway desu. Germany only need to knock on their door and they would capitulate in 2 hours like they did in WW2.

you came up with this after googling where denmark is, right?

Shut up sweden.

Quite a shitty map how is the uk more "dangerous" than germany?

storms because of the ocean?

google danish straits burger. it's the most strategically and economically valuable property in northern europe. it's not a coincidence they've stuck around for a long time. you don't think they fought over those borders right up until ww2 when modern european countries borders were decided? of course it's a country and you should've learnt this at school.

Are you some kind of retard? Don't your uneducated brain know that UK has north sea storms that are worse than those Germany experience? Oh lordie, you're some kind of dumbwit aren't you? Haha, someone better start educating these people. I mean, these are the same people who actally were gullible enough to follow Hitler to a WW2 over ridiculous stuff that their country didn't even need or desired until he tricked them into believing it. LOL, you are the same breed as your forefathers, I see. Holy kek, you're so dumb, I could probably convince you to take up arms for no particular reason right now and get arrested by merkel. LOLkek.

>It's always a thing when foreigners (except for scandinavians) come to Finland and they realize for the first time the weather doesn't effect you inside

literal nonsense here. Every single building that exists in America is climate controlled. In my entire life this hasn't been a problem.

>Every single building that exists in America is climate controlled.
in arizona maybe

This got nothing to do with anything I've said, you damn swede.
Denmark is so insignificant that even Estonia is more relevant.

That globe your grandpa got you for Christmas is really paying off today

Really wtf? I live in New England (admittedly better than pretty much everywhere else) and in 26 years this has never been a problem. Be it -10F in the dead of winter or 90F at the height of summer. All stores, movie theaters, restaurants, whatever are totally fine.

Every building in Maine is definitely not climate controlled

google population density. sweden has land and minerals but little trade opportunities if denmark cuts them off. any attack to denmark is like throwing troops into a funnel. quite literally if you look at the map. danish historically controlled both sides of the straits but always retreated to where the borders currently are during wartime. it's near impossible to attack either way over the straits. sweden couldn't do shit against denmark with their army even if denmark weren't in an military allience with the biggest armies in the world. which it is through NATO. denmark is on the winning side of history whether it's wars or diplomatics.
