Today is the 103 year anniversary of evil Germans blowing up an innocent British passenger ship, which caused the heroic Americans to help end WWI. Say something nice about it.

Lusitania was a Royal Navy auxiliary cruiser, it carried ammunition (without the passengers being made aware of that), and Germany issued an official warning that passengers would be traveling on a legitimate target

>International laws of war clearly say that you can't blow up civilian ships without a warning to leave first
>Germans say "We're gonna do it anyway, just letting you all know in advance"
>People get upset when you do it
Meanwhile, in Germany it's legal to steal a car so long as you send advance notice to the cops.

>When Lusitania was built, her construction and operating expenses were subsidised by the British government, with the provision that she could be converted to an Armed Merchant Cruiser if need be. At the outbreak of the First World War, the British Admiralty considered her for requisition as an armed merchant cruiser, and she was put on the official list of AMCs.[5]
>Lusitania remained on the official AMC list and was listed as an auxiliary cruiser in the 1914 edition of Jane's All the World's Fighting Ships, along with Mauretania.[6]

>It has been alleged that the wreck was bombed by the Royal Navy. A Dublin-based technical diver, Des Quigley, who dived on the wreck in the 1990s, reported that the wreck is "like Swiss cheese" and the seabed around her "is littered with unexploded hedgehog mines".[108]

>In February 2009, the Discovery Channel television series Treasure Quest aired an episode titled "Lusitania Revealed", in which Gregg Bemis, a retired venture capitalist who owns the rights to the wreck, and a team of shipwreck experts explore the wreck via a remote control unmanned submersible. At one point in the documentary an unexploded depth charge was found in the wreckage.[109][110]

>Professor William Kingston of Trinity College, Dublin claimed that "There's no doubt at all about it that the Royal Navy and the British government have taken very considerable steps over the years to try to prevent whatever can be found out about the Lusitania".[108]

>which caused the heroic Americans to help end WWI
I didn't know it was the anniversary of the balfour declaration

I'm not OP and know the fucking thing was armed but I don't know if the Irish are the most trustworthy source on Britain's perfidious behavior in WW1.

>baseless comment: the post

There's footage of the depth charges senpai. Also the wreck site is practically near the Irish coast.

Germans need to pay some serious reparations

>implying a ship carrying war materials isn't a legitimate target

Thank you America, you are the best.

If the Germans really thought they dindu nuffin they wouldn't've made all those gay little medals celebrating it. Chat shit get hit.

>tp
>tf
Can't make this shit up.

the sinking itself was legitimate, you can squeal around as much as you want, if you declare a ship an official Royal Navy cruiser, secretly store ammo on it, and use civilians as human shields despite them being warned by your own enemy and not yourself, you're being a massive hypocrite

in this case it was absolutely Britain who "chatted shit"

The British lamented a tragedy. There is no double meaning behind the propaganda. The Germans on the other hand vacillated between triumphalism, and the slow realisation, much like a spoiled child with its hand in the biscuit tin, that they had made a mistake. Whoops, I accidentally killed twelve hundred people! And in any event the OP is wrong, America didn't enter the war over the Lusitania and was profitably neutral for two whole years after she was sank.

you're being very dishonest in your portrayal of what happened. (surprise surprise)
>n August 1915, the Munich medallist and sculptor Karl X. Goetz (1875–1950), who had produced a series of propagandist and satirical medals as a running commentary on the war, privately struck a small run of medals as a limited-circulation satirical attack (fewer than 500 were struck) on the Cunard Line for trying to continue business as usual during wartime. Goetz blamed both the British government and the Cunard Line for allowing Lusitania to sail despite the German embassy's warnings.[70] Popular demand led to many unauthorised copies being made.
>The Goetz medal attracted so much attention that Lord Newton, who was in charge of Propaganda at the Foreign Office in 1916, decided to develop the anti-German feelings aroused by it for propaganda purposes and asked department store entrepreneur Harry Gordon Selfridge to reproduce the medal again.[74] The replica medals were produced in an attractive case and were an exact copy of the German medal, and were sold for a shilling apiece. On the cases it was stated that the medals had been distributed in Germany "to commemorate the sinking of Lusitania" and they came with a propaganda leaflet which strongly denounced the Germans and used the medal's incorrect date (5 May) to incorrectly claim that the sinking of Lusitania was premeditated, rather than just being incident to Germany's larger plan to sink any ship in a combat zone without warning.

>those evil Germans they sunk our warship even though we put loads on civilians on it, how COULD they
