I think it is much neater for them if they can just say "No, we had nothing to do with it, the market chose, we just followed.". Limits their liabilities and such. If I were them I'd be slowly and surely offloading BTC to *not* trigger it off, until I saw it start to happen precipitated by someone else, and then I'd dump the rest so I don't get left holding bags of core shit forever. If that makes it happen all the faster, not my problem, I still made a completely rational financial decision to offload assets on a useless chain.
