Germans are nice people and it's hard to imagine their (great-)grandparents destroyed Europe so much with so many war crimes. The country, however, seems to be a bigger but less developed version of the Netherlands.

Nope. Lived there it and sucked.
Germans hate their own history pre-1945 and will only care about a few little kings and musicians to be like "look guys, we mattered at one point (but not in a bad way tee hee)." Germans are lefty af too when it comes to politics and it really stinks to have to interact with them when you know deep down that they're on par with fringe left in the USA. They want to willingly speed up the federalization of the EU so they can try and get rid of their guilt-ridden identity.
