why is yurop so unequal?
Why is yurop so unequal?
Protestantism
tiny dicked scandinavians always post the most retarded shit
capitalism, socialist countries like France can't compete
My annual salary is higher than this.
Am I rich?
The stronkest difference is where the line between communism and freedom was.
Much of Eastern Europe was socialist until the fall of the Soviet Union.
It's all Russia's fault
the rich doesn't help the poor (us)
Russia
I'm unironically sorry.
thanks, communism
Sorry again.
it's not your fault for Croatia's communism
Yes.
>poortugal
What happens in Iceland?
lack of communism
post gini, it gets even worse
EFTA for the win, everybody else is poorfag.
Not Luxembourg.
its because communism but not why you think it is
communism era separated ppl from eachother instead of forming a stronger bond, everything was state owned, in theory that should mean everyone is the owner of the company, workplace, the streets, building and whatnot, makes sense right?
except it was the exact opposite, it nobody's, nobody cared about what happened with the roads, with the company, because you were forced into it, so ppl became extremly individualistic, it was kept togather by russian troops stationed in the countries and once they were gone, the great stealing began, everything that was state owned (which was pretty much everything apart from your personal belongings) became private, and you only cared about whats yours, because now you could have something and thats all that matters
>Russia's stupidity is responsible for entire eastern Europe's poorfagdom
Sorry.
>mfw the britbongs left this union that they created to counterbalance the eu to join the actual eu
Yes, it is. Even east Germany was poor due to Russian influence.
Are you retarded? Did you skip all of your history classes?
based
its a russian diasporafag
not enough communism
>born in a timeline where Croatia doesn't recover from the war
for fuck sake we only reached our pre war gdp per capita in 2004
>yurop
>unequal
you're like a little baby... watch this
check Max Webers sociology of religions on that topic, denbro is right
simplified: for protestants it was a sign of gods favor to be well off (due to hard work), for catholics it was a sign of god to be accepting of ones suffering and unsignificance. In short, protestants worked their asses off and got rich, catholics worked less and were satisfied with what they had
transylvania and eastern hungary is protestant, its poor as shit, infact poorer than traditionally hardcore catholic western parts, case dismissed sit down and think before opening your mouth
Warmia-Masuria is historically known for having a large number of protestants and yet it is much poorer than Silesia, which is full of religious catholics
based Germanic/Northern European genes
we truly are the masterrace
Protestants.
it's ok, at least we got to join the EU so we can not live here
it’s quite easy
since Europe has only one central bank, it’s the same as one big country
and when a part of a country is poor, richer parts should be covering up for her counterparts
>Europe has only one central bank
Go home, you're drunk.
This. Western Europe should pay reparations to us. Especially Germany that owes us 850 billion euros.
>check Max Webers sociology of religions on that topic
As much as Jow Forums likes him, Weber is far from without critics. Peter Collins for example opposes him to a limited extent (though not fully) by pointing out that many of the institutions fundamental to capitalism and industrialism were actually of Catholic origin, explaining the rise of the Hansaic League, the Italian trade cities and even the sort-of-but-not-really-Catholic British.
Even if you look at the map today, the thesis collapses. Out of the eleven red counttries in OP's map, excluding city-states, three are traditionally Catholic (Ireland, Switzerland and Austria, with Switzerland being the only dark red country together with Norway) and in the largest one (Germany) the traditional centers of industry (the Rhineland and Bavaria) are overwhelmingly Catholic while the area that struggles the most is overwhelmingly Protestant (historically, now overwhelmingly atheist) former Prussia.
There's a much clearer North-South divide than there is a Catholic-Protestant one.
Switzerland together with the Netherlands and Scotland are the most hardcore reformed protestants of them all historically.
Catholicism was everywhere before protestantism, and Europe only became modern wealthy nations long after protestantism came around.
it is widely critiqued
and quite rightfully so
besides, you're misinterpreting the reason
it's not 'hard work' that according to weber connected itself to capitalism, but 'accumulation'
it's okay as a discourse commentary, but that's it
capitalism
As opposed to the Netherlands and Scotland, Switzerland was always religiously divided though. It never became a fully Protestant country (or a fully Catholic one for that matter) and couldn't become one simply because it was a confederation and nobody could force another to adopt or abandon a certain religion.
>Europe only became modern wealthy nations long after protestantism came around
>Modern
Can you demonstrate that Catholic countries somehow lagged behind in this regard? That in the mid 1700s France was less advanced than Sweden, for example? Or do you mean to say that without Protestantism, Europe would remain in a state of perpetual stagnation. That's an incredibly tall tale to believe without some form of evidence pointing in that direction.
>Wealthy
In what sense do you mean this? You need to substantiate your terms in that regard. If you mean it in the sense of capitalist enterprise, I've already spoken about Collins' examples in the form of the Hansaic League or the Italian City States which thrived on what was effectively 'free trade' more or less. Or do you mean the spectacular increase in living standards following industrialization and automization? Then you'd have to once again prove that these events would not have happened in the absence of Protestantism. Merely pointing out that the first steam engine was invented in the UK is not enough to prove this, by the way.
In the end it's a thesis that suffers with a lot of clues that point in the opposite direction and, without fully substantiating the thesis, is effectively non-falsifiable.

Kazakhis are orthodox?
Because Europeans are not a monolith.
Max webers work is irrelevant. Nobody in sociology takes it seriously. Modern sociology is quantitative and scientific, weber was not.
Cuck.
Russian nation was the victim of bolsheviks/communism just like the rest.
1 side received 70 years of direct capitalist growth and investment in a period where capitalism had its greatest growth. The other side did not.
The map is wrong. But there is considerable Slavic minority in Kazakhstan, who are Orthodox.

Can't even imagine how could Portugal fail so hard to become poorer than the ex-communist states.
Because we are actual different countries
