Larsson is fine, it's the competition ITT that's giving him a lower score. He's just too regional or dependent on explanation. The composition is there for the most part, though not as well as many other artworks in this thread. Mostly there's just not a lot of emotional resonance that transcends time or location. No one here is going to be very moved by children at play in very specific settings unless they themselves have a similar memory.
Compare it to OP's Stańczyk. Doesn't matter that it's over 150 years old and depicting a court jester. The emotional resonance of a comedic man sitting alone in anguish as the party continues behind him is universally relatable.
