Are retirement homes a thing in your country? What's your opinion on them?

Are retirement homes a thing in your country? What's your opinion on them?

They are a thing here but mainly with white people.

yes
seem like a very dehumanising place to go and i'll never let my parents go to one

Yes.

Dunno, some are shitty and mistreat old people while the good ones are really expensive (around $1500 a month, nearly half the wage of a mid-level engineer)

All boomers should be thrown there to get treated by blacks

I suppose but maybe it's beneficial towards the elders who didn't get to have children or passed away erlaier, and have no other family members to look over them.

Being 90 is dehumanizing all on it’s own.

At that age you just want to be comfortable, dignity be damned.

No
Most people think that taking your grandparents or parents there is the last act of disrespect, you are expected to be the one to take care of them in their last years. And I kind of think the same, I wouldn't know if my parents would be mistreated by the personnel of a retirement home and I think that I would have failed as a son if I don't take care of them with the same dedication as they have done for me.

My patients used to beat me regularly, so they’ll be lucky if I don’t make them live in the shed in my backyard.

literally just rests on how much you pay
working as an assistant to a pharmacist i delivered medications in the local area once a week, massive parallel between the ones that felt like a storage unit for the elderly vs ones that lived like royalty in a sick crib
the solution to shitty retirement homes and people treating old people like shit is legalising euthanasia already. you ever been gripped on the wrist by a 90 year old staring into your soul asking when she'd go to heaven already?

maybe so but the most comfortable place to be is at home. if you're old and confused i'd imagine that being in a foreign place with strangers would cause a lot of stress.

You’re likely right. I’m was just trying to justify putting my dad in one to myself.

it is a thing, but only with old italian people it seems
I once did a contracting job with my dad and >95% it seemed were italian people speaking in their shitty spaghetti-talk

there is, but most people either take their parents to live with them or the elder themselves live alone. My mom went to live with my grandma.

I think it's heartless to send your elder to some shitty retirement home to be treated like crap desu.

I live in Florida, we have one every 2 feet. I used to drive a delivery truck and some of my routes were those places all day. You walk inside and you instantly smell death. There are old people that have no mind left, they have to be watched all day by CNA's and nurses or they'll get lost and run away. They have classes like kindergarten where a teacher reads them a story, or they put on music and they "work out". Its really really sad.

btw, if you're an autistic NEET and need a job those places are great for employment. You can start out as kitchen staff or do grounds keeping or low level maintenance if you're a guy. The places in Florida make a lot of money, so they pay their employees well. You'll make way more than stocking shelves at a grocery store.

>my boomer parents threw my grandparents in a home in north carolina and left the there to rot with the shitty black caretakers
i couldnt even fucking imagine if my children did that to me

> work summer job in retirement home
> large Bingo once or twice a week
> asked to take an elder man there who is demented and would probably make a run for it when he goes alone
> get seated and we get our bingo cards
> host calls the first number and this guy already yells BINGO al the top of his longs
> almost giving other players a heart attack
> proudly walks to the front to claim his prize. Only to be disappointed
> does this 2 more times
Fuck, elderly homes are depressing but the inhabitants had me crying with laughter sometimes

I will kys myself with barbiturates if I ever get diagnosed with MCI or early Alzheimer's

its more for people with dementia or who can't take care of themselves, thats why the staff are nurses
unless you have the money to take care of a adult sized baby for 10 years you really have to make use of them
at that stage they are already gone mentally, just waiting for the body to catch up

its really shitty. The funny thing about these places at least where I live is they try to hide them. They're gigantic properties where they hide dying old people. Our society likes to forget we all get old and die. Its sick to me, I think it was better back when humans died at like 60. No reason to be such an old weak person. Dying young is better.

Take solace in that you will never feel out of place in your demented old age. No matter where your children stick you, you will still be right at home.
You will still be here, shitposting on Jow Forums with all of us.
Forever.

Its hilarious to me that a high end doctor, lawyer and life long custodian all potentially end up in the same place. And ultimately, in a body bag. Enjoy your life bros.

We have halfway houses for the abandoned elderly. These are really sad. But we also have "pondok" where old people get together and live together in a camp/dorm near a mosque to spend their last days praying and learning religion. They go there voluntarily and leave most of their earthly possessions behind and die there.

unbelievable. Posting this webm for educational purposes.

Death is a scary thing, nobody young likes to think about it. We're all headed to the same place.

What about just sort of checking out of society and living in one as a younger man?

Only for abandoned elderlies which is government sponsored.
Only old faggots go there as regular non-degenerates have families or properties that take care of them until they die.

Filled with old dying whites while the natal wards are full of brown babies. And that's a good thing!

did she get fired?
