ZenAnons report in.
I set up 1 ZCoin node and it was a pain in the ass to manage, especially with the dev requiring a reset every update (Which forced me out of the queue, meaning longer waits)
There's managed hosting for ZCoin which makes it slightly less of a headache. Same goes for ZenCash. I do run all these nodes by myself, not that much of a headache, except for the upcoming network upgrade fork, but it will x3 my profits, so I do not mind about the downtime.
would it be worth it to get in on the node game now?
42 ZEN for a node doesn't seem bad at all.
how does managed hosting work? Do you mean a VPS or literally someone else managing your shit for you? I was thinking of just buying a few zen super nodes instead the small ones. I could get like, 4 or 5
what the fuck? I only have enough in crypto to afford a node, is it smart to all in this? be honest with me.
from what I see, you made over fucking 150 dollars worth of zen in a day.
someone fud me out of this, please.
he is running a lot of nodes not just 1
okay thank you, that makes more sense.
>someone fud me out of this, please.
bitmain likely has a shit ton of zen mined in secret with their asics, and they will control the supply of all mining hardware for equihash while keeping the best shit for themselves until they've used it and abused it and dump the asics on normans. they will control the majority of nodes
Does a zen node actually use a computer to give resources to the network? Or is it just PoS?
also this. Any news on if Zen will fork to avoid ASICs? Over 50% of Monero's hashrate was ASICs even before they got discovered.
it supplies end-to-end tls encryption for transactions and probably messaging and all the other cool shit zen is supposed to be able to do besides just sending zencash around. so, yes it does give bandwidth, secure connections and some small computation to the network. maybe eventually file storage i havent looked too deeply
>if Zen will fork to avoid ASICs?
no news, I doubt they fork honestly
Well, I have 35 of them so don't expect a unbiased opinion. But I think we'll see incentived nodes make a comeback in the short term. It is a great way to earn passive income, and if you have some decent bags all that is required is for Zen to go x2 and you'll be set for the foreseeable future with payouts from supernodes (I know I will be).
They manage the VPS for you and point it to your staking wallet which you control. Coins will always remain in your own wallet.
Yes, they do handle network computation, there is a whitepaper just on nodes

Supernodes will handle elevated network computation in the future.
Like sidechain and DAG transactions.
sad
thanks. i may end up getting in on the node meme
Who exactly will manage it? Someone from the subreddit or what?
Dont listen to this user, there is a scheduled hardfork for july 1, and then the plan is to fork to an asic resistant form of equihash 4-6 weeks later.
They are looking into a potential fork, but earliest would be September, so don't count on it. They do have a very level headed and intelligent ungoing discussion surrounding the entire ASIC debacle.

They are quite normal hosting companies who's business model is to set up VPS and run nodes for people who can't. For ZEN for example you have: thesecurenodes.com - There are 2 or three right now, you can find some better deals on the ZenCash discord though.
literally who is zen
Actually meant to link this one

They will be forking 100% but that was on the table before ASIC's. The equihash algorithm change that is being talked about may not make it into ZenCash a few weeks later as you said. Unfortunately it is impossible to say by how much it benefit the fight against ASICs.
Sure its just planned for now and it fould change, but they seem to listen to the community in earnest.
Indeed. And if you look at the ZCash debate on ASICS it kinda went south with Zookoo not being able to handle the situation. He locked the thread about the discussion only to have one of the other main devs reopen it and openly oppose Zookoo. Stark difference from how ZenCash has been handling it.
